Earthworks Mics at the Acoustic Show

Those of you who were at the acoustic show this past Friday may have noticed a bit of an improvement in the audio department from the last run of acoustic shows. We were able to use only Earthworks mics for this show, and it was a remarkable improvement. Earthworks specializes in microphones that add an absolute minimum amount of coloration, which means they work well on just about anything that already sounds good.
In the case of Eisley, this is definitely a good thing. Friday night, the vocals were crisp, clear, and natural, without the need for excessive EQ or effects. Weston's Djembe was incredibly present, without being overbearing, and the marxophone was infinitely better than it used to be when we miced it with a C1000 (A decent mic, but nothing close to an Earthworks.)
For Friday's show, we used SR30/HC's on Stacy and Sherri, and SR30's on Chauntelle, Djembe, and Marxophone. (The SR20 is also a very good mic that we've used a lot, before we upgraded to the SR30's.)

We started using an Earthworks mic in the middle of the '06 tour, and have been adding to our collection since then. Currently, you'll see 4 Earthworks mics on stage with Eisley, normally on vocals and drum overhead. They are equally at home in just about any application, so we hope to continue replacing our old mics. I've really never heard any mic that does what these mics do. You could record an amazing sounding album with nothing but SR20s. Speaking of which, I'll be posting soon about how Gary and Austin are using the Earthworks mics in the recording of Eisley's 3rd album.

(I had forgotten how good Christie's voice sounds through this mic. It's the mic she used on the tour with Wesley Jensen, but it's been a while.)
