MELBOURNE DAY 1

March 13, 2006 06:02 AM

DAY ONE - Melbourne continued:

Actually day one was when we arrived. Though day two are a bit of a blur... i have more pics from day one (Sunday), so i thought rather than just let them sit on my hard drive, i'd post them first and then move on. I am, however, now reporting from day 3 so don't get confused or I'll kanga punch you. Do Kanga's bite? We haven't seen any. I think it's a myth.

I snapped all these while strolling down the road looking for food. As you can see, we found the Australian equivalent of "Jamba Juice". I might have already said that. It's 5:23am on Tueday morning; i've been up since 3:30am trying to catch up. Lobby call is at 7:45am - the band has an interview with the biggest rock station here in Australia. Pretty stoked about that. I'm getting ahead. sorry.

Also, as a boyd teaser, i have the first show taped; what's more, I've cleaned off my hard drive and have plenty O gigs to breath now! So.. my oath to you loyal insiders: I'll Yank Vid, yawl... something will emerge from last night's show... dang. i'm getting ahead!

Today is going to be crazy... interview, afternoon show w/ Taking Back and a headlining show tonight!

------------------------------------------------------------

GETTING HERE was filled with adventure. The drive from Tyler was great, but we knew something was wrong in Dallas when the sky cab dudes said they couldn't check our baggage for that particular flight. Once inside, the line was long and information was scarce. Apparently our plane never took off from it's previous destination... Passengers began missing their connecting flights. The cool thing was - they found US a direct flight to LA; so - instead of being routed to Memphis, we flew straight to LA after a 4 hr layover.

Once in LA, the outlook seemed so bright; Chad drove up from recording his record in Hollywood... we'd all have some hangtime - arriving at 3:30, departing for Australia at 8:30. One problem - Sherri dropped her passport in the ladies room and didn't discover it until we had walked passed the cheeck points and outsize the security system.

Getting it back took shear panic... WE screamed and ran and tried to get help... nobody would let us back in. "But my daughter left her passport in the womens's room right over there!! WE have to get it!" Finally a supervisor wrote Chauntelle a temp boarding pass - but she had to get thru the check-point again. People were rude. It was taking forever. Every second was crucial. Anything could happen. She was in a panic.

After about 20 minutes into the ordeal, w/ Chauntelle finally got thru the checkpoint, we heard Sherri's name thru a loud speaker in the Airport; but we had no clue where it was coming from.... Long story, but we finally got it back after much travail; and everything was ok... but, it was horrorfyingly = a potentially devastating disasteroussituaation... a deal breaker... the trip would have been scrubbed.... all the ticket's wasted... a bad, bad scene. Instead, it was miraculous and by 8:30, we were on that 747 - whooosh.

The trip was a tripl....it was cool and weird; you end up chasing the sun, but we only caught up with it for a brief moment... it "set" on a pitch-black night with no audience. what a beautiful sight. We saw daybreak in Aukland, New Zealand. That was crazy i tell you. It didn't shine for the entire trip.

Well, best layed plans.... i'm falling asleep and the first show has already happened tonght.
I can't even spelll check this. Can't hold eyes open. More later.

Sydney
In Sydney, there's nothing xtra since the TBS show isn't sold out and it's all ages. You guys in that market, try to get a ticket and... you'll be set. Sure, i wish there could be something, but... you can't do a show on top of another one unless it's sold out. Bad form.

Brisbane
In Brisbane, we're going to do one of those nifty "semi-acoustic + 1 part electric" shows - (Small PA, vocals, Rhodes, Electric guitar and one acoustic guitar - no drums/bass). It's one of my favorite scaled down versions of Eisley. We tweaked this over time - trying different things. This seems to work. You get to hear the vocals really nice and loud - and feel the polyphonic contribution of the girls - sans the rhythm section. I will say, it doesn't rock, but it makes up in splendorousness. We'll try to mix it decently. Blame me if it sucks.

Free live instore performance and signing!

It's thundering and lightening - we're in a Tornado watch, so i'm goin to post this NOW while i have power!

(whooosh... kaBOOMb!!! scary storm)

ok. it's awl good now. So, i go now... to myspace to blast the news to the Aussies that overwhelmingly stated (in response messages) that they'd support a local show if we did it. We did a bit of research because promoters said they probably wanted the band to cover the short fall if there weren't at least 80 - 100 kids there... not enough time to promote it; not sure who's covering - the band or them, but... we sure hope you guys come out. thanks! boyd
