THAT WAS AN ATTENTION GETTING HEADLINE.
KUT 9o.5 - Live Radio Show. Thurs. August 21
Pics to come. i'm still on the v-fest images. sorry.
So, Eisley did this live radio show that started around noon. Some of yo
might have heard it. We arrived in Austin late Wed. night so we could
avoid driving 5 hours starting early Thurs. morn. Everything went pretty
smooth...we arrived on time - around 10:30 at the studio on UT campus.
One small problem presented itself after unloading: when Weston pulled
out his drums, there were no "hats". Turns out that "Echo and the
Bunnymen" borrowed his cymbals; we're not sure what happened, but in
the confusion, we never got them back...so the band did a modified
acoustic set; That means, Chauntelle: acoutic guitar, Jon: bass, Weston:
tambourine, Stacy: Rhodes/voc's, Sherri: Voc's.
There were definately a few boggles and warm up issues on the first two
songs perhaps, but the last 3 were well worth the listen. Of course, very
different sound; one thing you wouldn't know is that Chauntelle doesn't
always play straight up chords on Eisley songs...so, minutes before they
were on air, she was having to ask Sherri and Stacy what chords to play.
In the end, she did great.
Weston was reduced to tambourine - which is something he never does,
so that was interesting.
All and all, it was good. If Warner Bros. would allow me the space, I
could upload some of the tunes. Well, they will...but I have to send them
and get a link after they upload them to a special server. (not for
long...remember, this fall everything changes. I will have so much power,
I fear a hostile take over of.....yes, of the Universe.
Waterloo Records - In Store show. Thurs. August 21. 5:00pm
So, here we are in Austin at the guitar center - buying new hi-hats and
some other misc. stuff. Apparently, the Waterloo show starts at 7:00pm.
We arrive arouind 5:45pm. Expect a raw, indie show...soundwise; the
only thing runnin through the board are the keys and vocals.
What a great place... Only days ago, I read about Waterloo - or it was
listed as one of top 5 indie record stores in the country. (world?) We'd
been to Amoeba in LA only weeks ago and were blown away. Glad to
know that Texas has something that rivals those Cali's. Austin is indeed
the music mecca of Texas and John's store on 6th and Lamar surely lives
us to it's ranking. I think my kids dern near went broke from buying CD's
last night.
Anyway, brief report: I think I'd call last night a success. The half of the
store where the small stage is was pretty packed - from front to back.
Eisley did 4 songs, took a break and came back for 4 more...signed for a
long time and we packed up and left...and got home at 3:30am. The
people were very cool; it was an intimate show - the sound was "o.k.". -
no subtones from kick, vocals feel like they're on another planet because
there's no guitars in the mains - raw, imperfect, accoustic drums, indie
rockish - Austin style, brain-melting heat, dead cow sculls, tumble weeds,
lots of gunfights in the streets....sort of like Eisley at the O.K. Coral. nah,
it was fun. And that nice owner - John, gave us Waterlooo Shirts that look
like "the Underground" logo - which I thought was cool, so I will wear
mine with Texas pride.
Feel free to post comments about the show. It surely wasn't big sounding
like the one down the street there in Winter....or even a shadow of the
SXSW performance, but... it was important and we're thankful to
Waterloo. Hope to come back to Austin. bd
AND NOW: THE IMAGES BELOW
------------------------------------------------
- have to upload them and code them in. in progress now. 5:15pm friday.
everyone is leaving work and going out and nobody cares about my
progress except for me. I am almost caught up with all of this - bd
Before shows, you'll always find her here...
There was no place to put the road cases, so...why not in front of the
stage. That way, when Austin's enraged crowd of Waterloo Warriors
decide to storm the stage, the'll have this anvil moat to deal with.
And it worked perfectly.
Chauntelle, without a mic - "hey, everybody...we're eisley..."
3 seconds later, she's rocking it out...well, sorta.
These are unedited live shots...absolutely no photoshop work...
liar. the liar spews forth his intrepid ooze.
All natural...Sherri sings the bridge in "Over the Mountains We Go".
Right after the first song, I told the girls to turn up guitars.
She's like...."what?"..."oh, ok...." Remember, there's no mic's on
the amps, or drums... the only control is from stage, so....
you do what you can.
It came in...some solar flare...and lit her face in an angelic glow.
Luckily, I captured it on video.
They did a split show with a break in between 4 flanking songs.
Just like in the real battle of Waterloo. Very strategic.
I am keenly interested in understanding this band's demographic.
Did you guys notice that there were babies, kids, youths, college,
adults, middle agers, seniors present at this show? I'm not joking.
We had old granma's jigging with it...raving to us after the show
about how much they loved the music; there were parents who
brought their kids...and, i dunno. I guess it just shocked me. There
were reverends and dopers and ropers, of course, mostly our types -
regular music loving scene peeps...but; whatever... what does it
mean? Or was it a fluke? What's the Austin scene like?
It was a nice group of nice people in the store that eve. Here
they are... find yourself if you can..
And because I'm nice, I made a pretty little panoramic photo for you
to see. I think my brain always wants images to be like what the
eyeballs imbedded into these socket things on the upper part of my facial head see's... more perspective. Speaking of....this perspective is bogus.
And after, John wanted them to sign stuff... so that was nice. Eisley
always likes to meet people even though they're sorta scared of them.
And WB was VERY happy - sighting record sales. (no, record record
sales) Thanks everyone who bought the ep. seriously. It helps. Labels
like to recoup.
That's all for Waterloo. Now stay tuned for KUT images. And I'm trying to find space to toss a few songs up on the worldwideweb soon. bd

KUT Radio - Live Eisley Radio Show
Weston was spinning Collin around inside this road case.
Weston left his hi-hats in the UK, so...guess who didn't get to play drums
during the live show? Tamborine man.
Sherri was getting a set list together. 5 songs.
This was on the wall. Thought it was funny...in a morbid way.
jon tuning.
Jon and Chauntelle were hard to see from the control room.
speaking of...
Sherri singing.
Jon's midrif, cool gumby shirt and vintage bass.
Stacy singing.
Chauntelle and Jon again...all during live show.
That's the DJ. and that's the room. They were very nice.
That's all for now. Thanks everybody. have a great weekend.
