THE DALLAS SHOW
January 01, 2004 03:16 PM
Old friends talk Chauntelle into singing background vox's.
Hearing notes inside her head...
...because they're not loud enough in the monitor.
Eisley counts down backwards starting at 10...going towards 0.
The band lines up in the starting position...and waits for Captain Goggly to wave his wooden leg -
(indicating that the ramparts are in place and are starting to wiggle...being perched on the end of a quivering doylee)
Normal copy goes here. Sherri, shown singing an Eisley song.
Here, Chauntelle executes rabid precision on a ripping, van halenesque
(electric) guitar solo. Using electricity makes her playing "electrifying".
Here it is up close and personal.
This might be my all-time fav. I don't know why. She has a button mic for
a nose but her face looks sorta monte'-boovial.
It's no laughing matter. When one see's something so frightening, one
considers his mortality. She considered that she didn't have an anti-anti,
ray gun-gun to combat the cadmium bbzzt.
Every day Jon talks about wanting to buy a new zip on head...the kind
he's seen on TV ads. That's all he ever talks about.
Stacy seems to be at some concert or either looking down.
zzzzzzz....
I count 1,2...3 drumsticks? Wait...did he toss a broken one and grab a
new one that fast?
She uses Gleem, Golgate and Grest squirted together in one big gooey
rope before brushing.
Someone once made up the phrase: "I wonder if maybe Stacy's band
should have been called Bright Eyes and Conner's band - "ConnerEisley"
"Ole Conner and the rabid spelunkers"
Weston Jagger.
Chauntelle's Larravee - soloing "Laughing City" (the song)
Some literary scholars prefer "introducing" but it's the subject
of much debate at the large universities. I'm not about to change
it... I simply don't have the time.
Zoom, zoom, zoom.
When the other band members are more in the dark, I just have a spend
more time on a member that's in the light.
It sounded like a marching band coming down the street...but there were
cops and pepper spray all mixed up in there. Once it wafted down our way, we split - coughing and squinting.
Josiah Holland enjoying the festive riot. And I thought Jesse Lacey was going to run right into the middle of it.
HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!
(i hate exclaimation points)
Those of you you who were there can report your heartfelt feelings about
the night/morning. I think it's safe to say we all had a great time and...
eisley's show was the best.
(JUST kidding, I mean serious...) All
the bands were great.
I just remembered that they didn't play Queen of Leaves; That's because
nobody yelled out, "Queen of Leaves". So, maybe they only played 17
songs, not 18, like I assumed. But that encore was sweet.
My favorite song of the night? First, "Lost at Sea" because... I can't get
enough of it's simple, beauty. But I thought they pulled off "Over the
Mountains" in rare form..."Laughing City"... "Golly Sandra"... "Sun Feet"...
"Memories"... the best. You guys know I'm hard on shows; the sound,
performances, etc. I swooned throughout the entire set.
sidenote: I do think touring the US is more important than playing so
many Dallas shows. I know you guys love it when they come, but...
"saturation". Gotta get out more. Oh, I did hear that Eisley ranked 25 in
the top 100 most requested songs on The Edge. (Telescope Eyes) That's
pretty amazing considering the magnitude of the station and being in a
major market in the US.
I will have some nice pics from last night's show. The Austin show had
little lighting...especially on Chauntelle. She was in the dark on the first
two shows. Hopefully someone else covered the shows as well.
It's great to be back home snug around our little 30's, art deco furnace,
Christmas lights and our little extended family. We faced the 2 hour drive
courageously after our wreck the night before...and such little sleep. We
had to stop in Van to drop off the Ellis boys before arriving home around
4:30am.
The band has a few weeks to finish up song writing for the full length.
(literally, finish songs that will probably be on the new record) Hopefully
they can chill for a few days and not work or do anything.
Happy New Years everybody. Thanks so much....as always, for coming to
see the band live. I know many of you drove a long way; like the two
guys who drove from Oklahoma. I know there were more of you. Great
to meet new people as well. Well, I'd better go for now. Can't wait to
upload some images. Have a great day.

THE AUSTIN SHOW
December 31, 2003 07:45 AM
Hey. It's 7:40 and we just got to our hotel in Dallas after the Austin show.
I'll post on the Austin show after we sleep.
About 20 minutes from Dallas, around 4:42am, a car swirved to miss
something in the road, over corrected and swirved into our us, hitting our
trailer...Daniel and Matt ran back 3/4's a mile to check on the other
vehicle which apparently spun several times and landed in the median...
and they fled the scene..We're all fine, we sat on the road for 2 hours
waiting for Dallas police to do a report. The trailer is a bit smashed
but...now I need to sleep. We're thankful we're ok. Traumatic but all good
bd out.
Woah, we're really thanking God that the car didn't clip us just a few feet
forward...the van could have spun out of control...seeing how we were
clipping along at 65. It's weird to be asleep and hear this loud crash and
you hold on as the vehicle shakes and you brace for the next thing...but
it never came. Awesome.
John and Cassie and Phillup were right in back of us...they swerved,
nearly getting involved also but saw the whole thing. Crazy. Matt and
Daniel ran back only to help, just in time to see the car, the damage and
watch them speed through the median to the feeder. Anyway....enuf on
this. It's just still fresh.
The AUSTIN SHOW. I think far better than the Houston show. Everyone's
shows went really well. That's a great little room. I think Daniel said there
were 320 or something packed in...(upstairs and down; the downstairs
only holds 150, so I don't know how they fit them in upstairs with all
those tables?).
Anyway, I think Eisley sounded great. The crowd was awesome. The
sound was way better than in Houston; no glitches or big problems. The
new song was even sweeter.
Thanks Houstonians and Dallas fans for driving so far to an Austin gig.
That's amazing. Can't wait for tonight.
Sorry for all the road rash detail. At least now we've slept for a few
hours. Hope it doesn't affect their performance tonight. (nahhh...) If any
Brand New fans are here tonight, Jesse's here with us; maybe you'll spy
a glimpse of the befriended rock star. He's hilarious. whatever. You're
here to see Eisley.
ok "ya'll". (we're in Texas, ok?) Pictures later. I even have scenes from
last night's trauma recorded on film. I'm glad there's no blood...
Stacy was playing her guitar and they were singing a Sparkle Horse song
while we were board and we kept cracking jokes and being mad at the
cops who we imagined were eating donuts somewhere.
I heard rumor that tonight's show might sell out. I dunno if it's true. Get
there early in line...although you don't have to worry about missing
Eisley's set since they're last. bye!

THE HOUSTON SHOW
December 30, 2003 01:25 PM
December 29, The Engine Room
Hey everybody. First off, don't even THINK I have pics yet, ok? We got to
sleep around 4:00am. Will work on them in the van today on the way to
Austin.
It's hard being the guy from the band side of the coin to evaluate or
download well-balanced information about how the show went...but you
guys already know I stumble over this after every show, right... so
what's new?
First off...I refuse to comment on all the other bands shows. I heard too
many mixed reviews. We know all of those guys and there is much love
between the bands, regardless of the styles of music and the
performances. I thought they all did a great job. You guys can feel free
to post under this thread any and everything you want about any of the
bands.
Eisley's show started in absolute panic and terror. We had a great sound
check and everything was set; but things went terribly ary. For those of
you (techies) that need to know, the stage crew switched Stacy and
Sherri's vocal channels, so attempts to push Stacy's levels up only turned
Sherri into a loud screeching (cute) Coyote. The venue's crew was slow
to troubleshoot the problem; they thought it was a bad mic chord...but
wouldn't get on stage to solve the problem. Matt, our sound guy finally
figured out what was up and fixed it. Secondly, the venue sound people
are big fans of "loud", so they kept pushing the sub group levels when
Matt wasn't looking...they were peaking - thus the horrid distortion you
were hearing. It took half the show for Matt to figure out what they were
doing. Anyone into pain? Loud isn't always better. Their right side
speaker is partially blown or something.
This kind of panic and confusion typically sends tremors back into the
band and effects their performance. I was proud of Eisley for just pushing
past it... there were a few boggles, but...I like the natural way they
recover. The variables and issues with sound are endless. Indie venues
are notorious for delivering all kinds of problems. Also, Matt is new. That
was his first real show to mix for Eisely. Otherones were in controlled
environments. oh well...he had it sounding real nice toward midddle to
end, right?
We were pretty freaked over the turn out... 550+. Thanks everybody.
Sheesh... and on a Monday night during the holiday's? EISLEY?...who's
never headlined a show in Houston (this is the third show ever).
17 songs! I don't know about you, but that made me happy. And the new
one..."Lost at Sea". I can't get it out of my head..."Congratulations, 'cuz
we made it... all the way home... all the way home...and you know that,
till the stars fall, I'll always love you, I'll always love you". I can't hear
that without my eyes watering. (of course, I'm hearing the melody in my
head)
Well, I still haven't commented about the show overall. I can't say came
off without problems; I can't say it was one of their better shows...but
something about it was wonderful. Can you guys explain that? Maybe I'm
just jaded and I like their songs so much that it doesn't seem to ruin it for
me when there are problems.
The best thing is...and I speak for the band, not just me... is meeting
people and hanging out. Everybody is so cool. Meeting forum peeps
makes it for me. And all our relatives were there...very cool. Thanks
everyone for being so amazing. Eisley's favorite thing to do is play
shows. Touring is not going to be a problem for this band. They miss
home, but love to tour.
The band had 3 interviews. A California web radio host, a Houston
website and a Connecticut college radio station. Whenever those are
up, I'll try to post the links.
It's particularly cool for us to be in Houston since we're originally from
the big city. Sherri was born over there off I-10 at the Heights exit in
some little house. Chauntelle was born in the 1960 hospital and Weston
and Stacy were born in our house in the Woodlands. (i went to Spring
Woods in Spring Branch and Kim is also a native Houstonian) Who cares
where band members were born, but we just feel connected to Houston
in a huge way.
Anyway, you guys can give your comments about the show. I expect that
they'll be all over the map. Hope the sound issues didn't ruin it for you.
(AHHH...Mr. Pine and Marvelous Things was totally botched because of them...I hate
that).
Ok. gotta go. Will try to get some photos up...but I was so traumatized
and involved in the panic at the sound board, I wasn't a very good
videographer; plus Chauntelle and Weston were in the dark the entire
show. Sucky lighting. But everyone was nice at the venue this time;
nobody cussed me out. I made friends with Ed this time.
Gotta head out to Austin. Thanks everybody in Houston and for those
who drove from Dallas and further... Somebody drove from New Mexico
to see the show! (@%?)
Thanks. Boyd
