July 25, 05. Chicago, Ill. The METRO

METRO•POLIS!

I can see Chicago trailing off in the background...(binoc-eye) I think we're about 120 miles outside the big city; We're surrounded by corn stonks. I can't see the corn stonks, but I know they're out there. Or, maybe they're pig farms. What's out there? I'll tell you one thing... there's anything but good cell reception.

I'm weaving in and out of consciousness. I'm too far gone. Not enough sleep in the past week. I couldn't shuck the corn from a corn stonk to save my life right now. If I get on line for a second tonight, I'll post this, but... I'm battling staying awake. I can't. I'm losing it.

It's raining now... cats and corn.

The Metro
The show was great tonight, but the Chicago-ians were out of the ballpark. (baseball reference) It works since Wriggley Field is like... right there next door. Seriously, for the rest of the US. It's right there. see me? I'm pointing. like... right there. crap... i'm pointing to a Corn Stonk in a dark field.

We're driving to Kansas. Picking up drums. that's nice. I can retire my old 63 Rogers kit that the skinny lanker plays. But also, we're pick up young Garron. nice kid. you'll meet him if you want. He's no jon. But he know's jon. We've stayed with them tons... on tour. So, Garron and Jon aren't strangers.

The night was so, so amazing. And I credit that to only you Chicago-ians, as I said. No, i'm not joking or fluffing or poof dogging you at all. Eisley just came to another show... went thru the drill... drove a zillion miles (like from 9:30am till whenever!). We have always loved the Metro and have had some great moments here, but... I honestly didn't know what to expect for tonight.

Honestly, some of you know...this is totally a Hot Hot Heat tour... I mean, it's been largely their crowd with Eisleyoids sprinkled in. So what happened tonight!!? Do you think I'm bloating when I say... it totally felt like a Dallas crowd or something... hollering and wooping it up.... chanting "ONE MORE SONG. ONE MORE SONG!!" after their short 30 minute set. (HHH cut their set tonight.. curfew or something) I'm still in shock over you guys. And the merch line went on forever... wrapping thru the hall and up the stairs... for what seemed well over an hour. sheesh.

I teared up during the show. I did. I think it was a combination of ya'lls reaction to the band.... the love... and, the sound... and everything was going so well for a change; and the Jon thing is starting to get to me.... I almost lost it while talking to some fans tonight about it. (jon's departure)I felt embarrassed. I don't know how we're going to get through these last shows. As the reality of Jon's last show becomes a reality, the girls are going to lose it... I don't know how or if they'll be able to get through the Seattle show. It's so emo. :--)

It's now 3:30am. We've landed in... Iowa? I don't even know where... somewhere in Iowa. I woke up from bobbling along and "Olderman" (nickname nfg gave John Alderman), as we call him, was pulling off - heading toward this Comfort Inn. Cool... sleep. And they gave me and John a free upgrade. We have a whirlpool in our executive suite. It's not like we're gonna use it.. but the King size bed is cool... i don't have to worry about some gross, hairy man leg flopping over on me. Just kidding. That's never happened. If it did, I'd start hitting and screaming. We usually have 2 doubles. Last tour was the first that i didn't sleep on the floor. Since the beginning, I slept on the floor... Coldplay tour forward. Now, I'm a big high roller... I gotz me a bed. me and mah other grunt gotz a bed each.

And, there's a nice rocking chair and a nice chair with a leg thing for your legs.

Well... ya'll. We have 5 days off. Actually, tomorrow is the first. We drive like sons of moon pies to Kansas, pick up Garron, hang, maybe with friends...cuz they're all over down there... might go to Don Chaffer's studio since he's begged us to no end to do so... and Olderman is from Kanas of late... got bud's there; I dunno. We'll get coffee from one of those amazing coffee shops as many times as possible before leaving the next morning early....to drive that 2000 miles or whatever it is... all the way to LA. Oh Lord... we have to make it in 2 days... so that's 2 honkin days of travel... hittn' it hard. Pushin' it... We have some big wonderful dinner with Chad the night we arrive... and then just chill at his crib like always while in LA. I think we have meetings with new management and a meeting with Marvin, the art director, owner, creative director, photographer of NYLON to talk about the video that will be shot when we return to LA for the Yahoo date there... And we'll hang out and do stuff for that one day before resuming the tour....

man. what am i doing up!! goodnight...
-----------------------------

Hey guys. Please post. sorry for delay. web down. It was very major... major indeed. hacking or some such horror... from Asia? I dunno what they finally determined, but it sucked bad. Poor Thomas. He's been the past 2 nights with those guys in lab coats, on the phone, checking status... and it cost well over 1k to fix. grrrrr.... we're back up and running now.

Well, we didn't do coffee last night since it rained and rained... we did hang with our friends at their house, which was awesome... and ate their food which was free... and listened to music and laughed really hard for hours. Then we came back to the first priceline hotel deal we've ever made. Not a bad deal at all...

Anyway, it's 7:00am or something, we have to drive 1000 miles at least today... We're heading West for LA... must reach destination by tomorrow evening... 1,800 miles. sheesh. I'd better check email and do some business type business. bye for now. boyd

it took me three shows before i got the courage to hold a conversation with any of them... sure enough, by show four last sunday, i was ready... and while i didn't want to hold up the hordes of people waiting to meet the girls, i did speak a little bit to jon and talked to boyd for an extended period of time...

this is a long way of saying that once you do gather the courage to talk to them, they'll make you feel like you've known them for ages... they're so swell
