CONAN Taping

Shots from Conan Gig (added)

See a photo diary of the entire day - shots of the NBC set, etc.

See More Pics.

Pre-show fascination... we oogled over the set that seemed so familiar.

Cool that they just let us walk around un-checked and shoot pics.

This was Sherri's idea. I am into vintage kits. Few know Weston played my
'66 Rogers red sparkle "Holiday" kit up until a few years ago. That does not
make me cool. Only my drums are cool.

Weston's C&C custom kit. Thanks to fan - Adam for letting us store
drums, guitars, amps with him while we were in the UK... all so we
could have it here. The rest of our gear went to Indiana in our trailer
and is parked in a secret place awaiting our reunion for the MM tour.
Mark, who did not fly back to Tyler, rented a car and drove from NY
to Indi to work on gear during these 2 weeks we're off. We will fly in
to Salt Lake or somewhere a day early for pre-production, rehearse
and make the overnight drive to Boise at The Big Easy.

For an hr, we watched a candid Conan walk thru his entire show,
rehearsing and selecting the funniest ads to read. They killed some
of what they rehearsed... actually, they killed some of what they
TAPED. He was so normal; not trying to be funny at all; it was like
sitting in on a creative meeting... strange, huh.

Kim and her mom flew up (see pic above. see it? above) It was trippy

walking around the set. Everything is SMALL. OH so smaller than it appears
on Television. It's freaking tiny. No joke. Tiny. Miniscule.

We were all so wow'd. This all takes place right before Eisley's lengthy,
very productive sound check. If only the check would have been thought
about by the folk who mix for TV... I take that back. The band sounded
great (xcept Chauntelle's guitar needed to be louder)... the vocals were
sadly, lame-o. But you already know that if you watched.

This is sound check. I was so happy. The mix was so good in that little
room. Little did I know it was going to sound mediocre-ous for the millions.

Yes, Weston is taller than Conan. The mystery is finally over.

The green room had amazing food. See Chauntelle enjoying it here.

First report
This was reported within an hr after the taping
It's done and we're back at the hotel. I can give you a heads up... it was amazing in the live audience room... and naturally, the TV mix is just so-so. The band sounds great, but I'd have paid the mixer 100 bucks to let Mark turn the dials... add some verb, fatten up Sherri and sharpen up Stacy. Still, all in all, it was a great performance. Conan actually watched (Max told band he rarely watches... sidestage)... he talked their heads off after the set, asked tons of questions... Max said he loved the chord progressions and was taking home the CD to listen. The music director said he loved the band and looked forward to coming back. I'll get more details and give a full report later. Thanks ya'll. bd

Working on Full report
And shots I took with Kim's camera.

Note: at this moment, Eisley has not yet aired on Conan in NY. That's JUST how on top of things we are here in Trolleywood. jk. I've been so bad. bd

We're at our HoJo - leaving for La Guardia in half an hr. NY was a blast... very productive for the band i think. Hope you guys were ok w/ the TV performance. The girls were a bit nervous; If you're a new fan, shows sound very different... plus the TV mix was so lacking on the vocal mix... brittle and exposed, w/ no middle... no verb. Harmonies were out front, etc. It was disappointing, but out front in the venue, the band sounded really amazing. Next time, we'll do more to interface w/ sound technicians. We didn't want to be that pain in the butt - primadonna band on our first visit. We did our best just to fit in and build relationships.

WB is sending vans. Just got the call they'll arrive in 15. Gotta finish packing. C ya'll. Thanks for being so supportive and for staying up to watch yer teli. It will be awesome to be home for a few weeks! Starbucks and Walmart!!

boyd

Love to catch UP on last few tours
With so many shows back to back; WAIT, those weren't SHOWS! - they were tours. Anyway, it was difficult to post as often as I wanted to. I can't really go back and yab-blab because, well... my head would uncork from it's esophageal flange and float out into space. Anyway, i was born to be wild.

I am working in the air. Flying and working in the air. I do not flap. I'm getting sleepy. Weston is conversing with an Atlanta person who's actually headed to Tyler to visit relatives; I hear much yibberings about Eisley. She must be asking because Weston doesn't talk about the band. Sherri and Stacy are reading, Kim is flashing her bright pink watch lights at me - some sort of morse code. We were grounded in back of approximately 800 planes in Atlanta after boarding... nonsense about wind-sheer. It"s raining cats and goats. I think we were 1.5 hrs late for take off.

It'll be good to be home; but I have to do a solid weeks worth of post production TM crap. I just wanna sleep in and be a bum for 2 weeks. I just wanna have my bills paid for 2 weeks... go on a vacation in my very own house... and drink my very own coffee.

more later.

home again, home again, jiggidy Jigg.

to be continued.

Aside from the obvious audio problems everything seemed to go really well. And at least the band looked great, that's half of what counts on one of these types of shows, so kudos to the lighting, if not audio, department Wink

Well,,

What a great promo-boost for Eisley no doubt!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Combinations is such a beautiful work! on CD , 8 Track, ADT,2 inch tape. beta VHS!!8mm,16mm what ever!!!!!!. Richard and crew did such a great job in capturing the band .!!!! I really appreciate it know more than ever.

To be on Conan is ,,well,, I (we) Luv Conan (the Late night Barbarian) hee Hee He he??
Hmmmmmmm.

i love the song ( Invasions)........something seemed strained vocally on the show..............there I said it..
Vocals were WAY up front and not balanced with the music.. on TV the Mix should of been ......better.. ( NOT the bands fault)
(I'm sorry i was being hyper critical for a moment.)
Tv is a hard place to convey musically sometimes. band mixes are near impossible to capture on TV. i was so happy to race home tonite to see the band on Conan....What great treat. i know they will be on other shows this year and in the future know doubt!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
They looked good!!!.

I am angry at the mix! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Fernster..

Weston was awesome on the drums!! He got featured!!!

Sherri's song is so good.....

OH MY. Talk about bad luck.
My power went out about 5 minutes before you went on. :[
I made others watch and heard it was good.
So congrats!
And I have a question....
I bought my ticket for the upcoming shows....
And Mute Math is the name on it.
Not Eisley.
Are you guys headlining?
Cause that's what I thought.
:/
