Eisley Ends "Combinations" Headlining Run

Sat May 24, 2008 11:31 am

Where to begin. I would have loved to have begun at the beginning of this
tour. Instead, I'm beginning my tour memoirs on the last day of the run. I
have much to say. ('you have no idea') But our bus is sitting in a big Mall
parking lot so Mark and I are going to get Starbucks inside Barnes & Noble -
so... first things first.

Hey - I just realized - nobody punched me. I told you to punch me for not
being as on top of the journal this time around. I have many good excuses
and will tell many tall tales to that end... after coffee.

Here's a nice wrap around shot from the Dallas House of Blues show Thurs.
night. Promoters said we got bit by "finals", but I thought the turn out was
quite swell. You guys were huge to us.

Check out Jamie's hot pics: he keeps getting better and better:

bd more:

One thing I've learned from touring: the more people you meet, the more people you know... and the more people you know, you more you know - the more people you forget are supposed to know. Dallas epitomizes this reality at least as good or better than any other market. I used to be able to walk here and there without pleasant distractions. No more. You do realize that I like people, so this is good. But since I'm tour managing, and am typically on my way here or there to take care of some detail, this is bad. However, if you mix the good and bad aspects together, you get a gooney, happy, distracted, slightly stressed me. Nothing new really, huh.

Did you read the Dallas Morning News article by Mike Daniel? I loved it. He gave us a mediocre review of "Combinations" last year so I wasn't expecting much. His words were sorta awesome - even if there were 700, not 450 in attendance on a finals night ( btw - there 780 with comps/guests in the room). But none of that matters. Not even the fact that Eisley didn't play "Telescope Eyes". Know what I liked? I'll use an industry phrase that I often mock: "he got it". His take away was correct: the band had grown...up - yes; but they are edgier, grittier, louder, better. I told you they were pissed off (excuse my dupre' french).

The tour ended on an upswing tonight in McAllen as 260 hard core Eisley fans from South Texas turned out to be one of the roudiest crowds of all. I think half of them swarmed the bus after the show for autographs. Small beginnings. You'll hear me say this over and over again, but - you have to go somewhere to go there (again).

I'm about to go hear Max's solo set here in McAllen. We lost our touring package along the dusty trail so the promoter jumped at the opportunity to have a "Say Anything" main support on the bill. I have much, much more to say. You have no idea (that's going to be my new theme phrase for you guys). Be back.

We're headed toward Tyler now. It's 2:15am. I am falling asleep. I have much to talk about. Gotta clean out my bunks, drawers, organize, pack, prepare for exodus. yeesh. Talk soon.

Dallas show
I felt that a long dramatic comment would do some good after attending the Dallas performance. Being from Texas, I went in with extremely high expectations since Eisley is, of course from around these neck of the woods. I've had the opportunity to see the band play six times in the past year and a half and have been blown away each night. Well, my expectations were met and then blown out of the water before the second song began. (Perfect set list, by the way!) The band was so into the music for the ENTIRE set that the crowd stayed focused and loved every note. I tip my hat off to Garron for his surprising acrobatic leap from his bass equipment during the encore! Ah, yes, the special guest vocals of Max and Christie were quite a treat. I had heard rumors about Christie singing a line or two, but didn't realize that Max was going to come out and sprinkle a little Say Anything-esqe dust upon an Eisley song. The two 'new' intros by Stacy were absolutely beautiful, especially before I Could Be There For You. Everything from the intense energy and passion throughout, minor ad libs and hearing Stacy slightly crack with emotion made it the best Eisley performance I've seen to date. Once the set was over, it, (unfortunately), felt as if reality was slowly creeping back into the room. I was in disbelief with how well the band did. I can't give the girls... and guys(!), enough praise for their performance in Dallas. I just hope yall come back SOON with more gymnastic stunts and flawless music for the 'home-town' crowd Smile

Max Bemis? What's he doing there?? I would have never connected Eisley and Say Anything together. Wish I was there, I love Max and Eisley. Hope the tour was great, even though I couldn't go to the 18+ Boston show. I'll catch you guys next time around definitely.
