What's the deal?

murky shadows on a street in Tyler

Mystics
How many times have we been here... the dark side. the black out. No - not talking about the hurricane pummeling South Texas. I am referencing status. It's times like these - when a.) nothing is happening or b.) nothing is happening we can report. This really annoys me. I'm sure it annoys you guys even more.

But there are a few things we can talk about. Only... I keep talking about those few things over and over again: The girls are writing songs... and we're enjoying the summer in Tyler, Texas. Apologies. I realize I sound like a broken record. We are making plans to start recording demo's in August. I didn't say an album; then again - demo's are pieces to the whole. They're also pieces to the puzzle. Before you make a record, you have to figure out the deal.

Combinations
The record cycle was broken. Momentum was lost. That's what we were told. Perhaps that's what we told them. Perhaps somebody forced us to tell them that. Crap. I need a muzzle. One day I'll write a book. It'll sell over 2 dozen copies and I'll be a man of means - by all means. Anyway, though "Combinations" was a proud blip in Eisley's querulous precedent, it's fair to say that her expansion was thwarted, if not exacerbated by factors under scrutiny. While scrutiny illuminates & examines & blames, it doesn't necessarily move us forward. Water under the bridge. Well, not exactly... scrutiny aids in log jam removal... thus - facilitating current. There will be a new record but you should all understand... the world hasn't even heard "Combinations".

Proxy Shots. Antidotal for Black Out.
I can't use myself as a prop because when I take pictures of myself, i shriek in horror and turn the camera away. So, in an effort to resolve content lack issues (CLI), I simply grabbed snaps of the world around me... as I walked through it. Here's some bytes of Tyler - shot on a crappy Blackberry camera. There is minimal tweakage and in some cases, no tweakage. I did this all in less than one hr. And it sure looks it:

Sherri holding new guitar in Tyler

btw - to answer a comment question: yes, this guitar is very similar to the previous one. Finish tone is slightly different. Sherri's arm was stressing on the first one because he had a sharper inlay around the edge of the former guitar. Todd was going to fix it but decided just to start from scratch and make another one. This one has different pick ups... different sound; it's also semi-hollow. More of a rocker. Humbuckers. We need her to have a fat sound occasionally... maybe on Invasion or something. We'll have to figure that out in pre-production. He's making a new one for Chauntelle too. She's picking colors... but it's going to be a semi-hollow body tele type guitar.

I don't have any information on touring yet. Sorry. We don't want to leave you guys high and dry... but - there is foundational business to take care of right now... and as long as song-writing and recording is happening, it's good. So many cool things in the works... but most of the ops are not in the US. Don't worry. Eisley will come back strong. This year was a major set-back year in so many ways. No comment on the people, i mean the circumstances that caused the setbacks. We have a fat headlining tour under our belts this year and I'm sure there will be one off's, and opportunities for support.

Sherri in Tyler. ok. i cheated. That one was taken w/ my Nikon.

This is the accurate portrayal of the mood in our minds in Tyler.

But there's a silver lining... shot moments later.

More info soon. Do you believe me? Conference calls and ichat conferences and flying to meet. Much rolling up of sleeves. Much negotiating. Much muchness. All that matters is music in the end. Thanks for being patient guys.

What I'm dying to know is: should I hold out any hope that Eisley will tour again in 2008? Because who knows how long WB will take to make available a new record.

A few short tours with really cool bands would indubitably tide a lot of fans over. That's what I think, anyway.
