The Gear is Out. The show is Thursday.

Sun Apr 19, 2009 5:58 pm

Exhumed from the Trailer Tomb, Eisley's gear is finally above ground and enjoying the fresh air.

Talk about the Show
No... you. I'm saying I want you to start talking about the show. Never-mind. I will. The least I can do is give you a backdrop. We have 3 of them in the trailer and aren't using any of them anymore. I'm kidding, you can't have them. I'll give you some background. No backdrops.

Baylor University
FOUNTAIN MALL STAGE (see map below)
FREE TO ALL (you don't have to be a student)
Eisley plays at 10:00pm
Bands play all day!

First - I need a show of hands. Who all is going to make the cross-country trek to Waco to shoe-gaze with other Tex-Eisley fans? None? ok... put your hands down. I didn't get the response I wanted. Did I not tell you that the band going to perform 2 - 3 new songs. That should be enough reason to come. Then again...you know people are going to videotape those songs and put them on line...

Here are directions/map:

BACKDROP
The band is busy, busy, busy... that's why we sat in the corner pocket of our local Starbucks for almost 2 hrs yesterday. I have proof. There were many of us. I didn't boof the whole lot of them. Some are more 'boof shy'.

Weston and Garron were pulling their shirts over their heads when they caught a glimpse of each other...
it was an accident but it doesn't explain the same exact jeans, belt, hair color and tennis shoes.

The rest of these are just random blackberry shots like the previous ones. They signify nothing. They have little art value either.

Taken in the van on the way to take Max & Sherri to Paris... via DFW. I look tired and old. I was. We had that wedding the day before... and had to stay late (last) to clean up.

I always shoot Todd's guitars; he's around and I love seeing his creations.
This one was a wedding gift.

This represents a shot of Chauntelle's Hofner because it was on top of the
gear we loaded in and I was tempted to open the case and behold.

This represents a dark street in the evening in Tyler Texas.

This represents nn American flag on 1-20.

As I was saying, they're busy rehearsing... long and hard. I am not joking now. All evening/night till past midnight last night, all afternoon till late today. OH - and I heard a rumor they were letting an old school fan make the set list. That could be a rumor... or just another lie. Stacy told me she wanted Max to make the list. He's been a fan since the early days so that should make for a possible fresh/interesting outcome. I don't know. It's likely that he might like all of the songs you guys like. The band is relying on muscle memory to re-learn all their old songs. Everyone is starting to get psyched out of their minds.

Eisley's Show
The way I see it, this show is more for Eisley than for you guys. The reason I say that is because it's their first show of the year. It's the show to kick off all future shows. It's the show right before they make their 3rd record. It's the show right after Sherri got married. It's the first show they've ever played in Waco. It's the first show we've used the van to drive to in years. And... it's the first show of the rest of their lives. It can't be for you since most of you are not living in Waco, Texas and, in fact, are not coming. Scratch all I said. That can't be right.

OTHER ACTS
Dave Barnes http://www.myspace.com/davebarnes and Judas Feet http://www.myspace.com/judasfeet but I think there are way more bands on the bill... like all day? No way we were going to sound check at 9:00am on day of show. We'd have to leave T-town at 5am to get there by 7:00am, unload, get set up, s/c by 9. So we're doing it late - the night before. I guess some band is playing till midnight that night. Then we can sleep in the next day. We have stuff to do and will roll out there later in the aft/evening i guess. Will play it by ear.

The poster (i was kidding. it was really colorful) only shows the acts on this bill:Dave Barnes sounds really pro... and is bound to have a killer Nashville band backing him. He has a N-ville singer/song-writer style... add blues, pop... it's really good (blue-eyed soul?). I have a friend who knows him and his fam'... say's they're nice folk. I'll bet there will be lots of his fans there. Judas Feet - I like. Organic, catchy, melodic, folksy, rural, heartland... nicely crafted, well-executed. I sorta want to see both shows if possible.

MM
new video out.

SA
Say Anything is another band that I've/we've had the privilege of hearing all the new songs for their record. I know, I know... most of you aren't jealous. Like me, you might not realize you're going to become a fan. I knew of them since the first album because they were also managed by CP's peeps ... but I wasn't really paying attention (Eisley was). Now I am. Why? Not because of Max... or not just because of Max... but because the songs on this record are freaking amazing and I am seriously addicted. We had the privilege of hearing and wearing out the acoustic demo's Max recorded at Rosewood to all his songs before Neil Avron and the band got involved. Again - no reviews... and I shouldn't make predictions but... uh. I can't say. Let's just say there's a few love songs that are probably going to make you guys really happy. A few of them make my cry. The record is excellent... it's wildly creative, engaging, honest. Will be interested in your reaction one day. That wasn't a review.

Hope you enjoy some new Eisley songs this Thursday. Not trying to make a big deal. My guess is - most of this crowd won't know the old songs, so... it's a great opportunity for Eisley to reach new potential fans. One-off shows are a little scary... especially one-off shows after a year of not being on tour. You don't have the benefit of the rhythm of show after show, night after night - to sharpen, hone, problem-solve. You get one review. Be nice ~

Twitter
Couldn't resist: http://twitter.com/eisley Been talking with many in Twittershere about following "followers" vs not following all followers. So what if Ashton Kitcher has 1,233,425 followers and only follows 89. He's a TV/film celeb'. Anyway, if anyone wants to see 140-word Twitts of condensed Trolleywood each day, feel free to follow. Trying to make it as engaging and informative as possible. Thnx.

Everyone has a facebook too... including me in case you guys are frustrated that i don't answer pm's here. Too many portals. Facebook works well for me.

I don't mind that you promote Mute Math. I'm just annoyed because you have heard the new album and the rest of us have to wait.

So when are you coming back to Australia? Seriously. Its been 3 years. I know, I know... its not possible right now, maybe in the future, money issues. etc. I understand. *sigh*

Thank goodness for your journal updates, they keep me satisfied until the band has something substantial to release. Plus Christie's songs are brilliant.

I'm gonna join everybody whining about not being able to go. Not a single Eisley show should be missed and so far I've missed them all cause I live on the other side of the world. Well, hopefully someday I will be able to see you guys live (: I wish you good luck on this scary one-off show, I know it will be beautiful.
And your journal updates are about the nicest thing on Sunday morning (in this case Monday). Your talking about Mute Math and Say Anything makes me want to check both binds out which I am ashamed of not having done already.

Am I excited for the show on Thursday? OOOOOOOOOH YESSSSSS!!!!!
Am I going? ...No. I can't drive and Georgia is kind of far from Texas so... I will be watching the videos people take of it and be freaking out about the new songs in the privacy of my own room.
GOOD LUCK!

Boyd, I must ask (though this is probably a repeated question), when, (if you know), exactly does Eisley go on? I heard someone on the forum say 10:00pm, but I figured I'd ask the Head Hancho, (you.) Smile

I live in Waco so I will definetly be at the show!!! Very Happy

....And Im bringing all my friends. I think there are more Eisley fans in Waco than some may realize.

Eisley has been one of my top favorite bands for years and I cant believe they're actually doing a show in my hometown. Im so excited!!!

And I think Baylor should accomodate Eisley's coffee addiction well, as there is a Starbucks on one end of campus and Common Grounds coffee house on the other.

(Also wondering what time the band will go on) Question

Our contract says 10:00pm. I assume it's correct. I realize that seems late... especially for out of towners but... think of it like this: If your head was stuck in a dike and the water was rising... and all you had available was a hack saw and some explosives, what would you do?

Answer: I'm not sure exactly, ok... but you're missing the point. Just think of how painless your life is right now compared to that? Your life is good... even if you don't get much sleep Thursday night. Just think about all those people with their heads jammed in damns all over the world right now... trying to figure out which option to chose.

I think the realization that you'd have no choice but to hack off your head with a fine-toothed blade could cause severe emotional stress. Obviously the explosives wouldn't work since I didn't provide you with a way to ignite them. And even if you had matches in your pocket, I don't recommend it. Drowning would be better than being blown to tiny chunks of yourself.

So... I think the best option is just to play it safe and come to Eisley's show.

It's great to hear that Eisley's on the move again! And I like that analogy thingy about the dam! You certainly have a point!

Have you guys finished developing the warp wall yet? C'mon, you guys are sci-fi savvy: a warp wall is a roundish shimmery dealie that you step into on one side of the universe and step out into another. Imagine the crowds Eisley would draw then! Armies of fans warp-walling from all over to Waco, which is the only way I'll be able to get there, so get your engineers (that's 4th dimension engineers, not sound engineers) back to work at the double, only a few days left. Unless of course you can simultaneously perfect the time machine...oh never mind, I'll just catch the YouTubecast.

Pictures of guitars are grand. So are some pianos.

Fast fact: so far in all of Twitterville only Boyd/Eis-designate has found a way to make a 140-character post worthwhile, although I prefer by far the 140-line posts found here.

You and your music secrets. Well you're not the only one so stop being so smug. I've been digesting this great snorecore album (their 3rd) by a friend's band for a year, but they still haven't put it out. That's Australian laidbackness for you. She never took down the files so I'm sending you a link via PM - guaranteed someone in that house will revel in it, or Phil Spector was a better humanitarian than producer. All part of a cunning ploy designed to get you to "owe me." And you haven't heard my stories of being a regular guest at a particular musical starman's home. Now that's a real oddity.

I hope the gig is a big success. Whatever that means. Could entail that 20,000 people show up to get swathed in rock juiciness or the band gets through the set without breaking a shoestring. Life's about little pleasures and the glass staying half-full. Isn't it?
