La Zona Rosa. Austin, Texas. 9.11.04

Tue Oct 12, 2004 1:48 am

The San Diego-ians just lost out to The Austin-oids... Dang. When the
band walked out, I thought maybe Snow Patrol had come out instead.
sheesh-dawg. Thankyou Austin. And I must say...Texas feels so good;the
home crowd, the friends, the family; ahhh... (but that's not to take
anything away from the rest of the great country and you wonderful
people in your towns and cities)

Just wanted to get the thread started. Thanks! More tomorrow. bd
p.s. i put up a few pics from the Tucson show.

-----------------

Hey. Selfishly, a great day for us. After the show last night, we left pretty early since we had to drive to Houston; hope you guys found the band if you wanted to around the merch area. I didn't get to hang very much... met a few of you. (sorry Ali for the dissing... sad)

Anyway, I can't help it... even if it sounds redundant - thank you for the
welcome home party last night. That's what it felt like. I mean...it's been
great out there on the road, but honestly, it is totally Snow Patrol's tour.
Eisley got added and it hasn't been very publicized other than our little
forum and on random venue web pages. I'm not really sure if Snow
Patrol's fan base "gets" eisley so much. I think they're sorta ok with
them, but... it's too sensitive, pretty, creative, indie or whatever for those
guys. I can see the difference in Eisley fans and S.P. fans. S.P. has an
older market... lots of longnecks raised to the air... I guarantee most of
them don't have "deathcab", "rilo kiley", "keen"... or even "brand new" or
any of the hundreds of bands that we have on our playlist in theirs. I
might be wrong. Thought t's still a good match, I don't think they're
getting it like Brand New's fanbase... or Coldplay's. Am I wrong?

Well... I think Austin's show was the most encouraging...especially
considering the Austin music scene is so cultured and gets SO much
music - that it's hard to impress these guys. Seriously, people say the
Austin scene is snobby about music; I rather choose to say they're
sophisticated and selective. That's not a suck-up statement... it's true.
Well....thanks for having the guts to adore a prettier expression of
songwriting and performance and persona. I just wondered for the first
time what George Harrison would have thought about Eisley. Or John.
Hey Paul... Wait, I swear I just now remembered that George's son has
heard of Eisley because we have mutual friends who told him. so. there.
He's also heard of the Eifle Tower I suppose. I just listened to the new
record straight thru again. I keep thinking it's really good. I should say
that it sucks so I'm not guilty of blowing it out of proportion. yeah, it's so
lame. Totally not so amazing.

We chilled today at one of my great brother's house out in Richmond. It's
huge and there's an acre with giant dogs and giant horses. We slept in
and had amazing coffee and breakfast and Wade and Chauntelle have
been messing with guitars and pedals all day. They A/B's his Tele with
her Tele. ok gotta go to the next gig. OH, that's Houston! See you tonight! bdout.

Excellent work tonight, Eisley! And one heck of a setlist! You definitely deserved all of that cheering, as some of us were there primarily to see Eisley. Snow Patrol was a really nice bonus, but my ticket was for Eisley. Also, the new tempo for Telescope Eyes is outright outstanding! I hope that's made the song interesting to play again. I know that you guys have played that song a loooooot. The little riff that Chauntelle does in it now is really cool, too. Always been one of my favorite songs, and I absolutely love hearing it. Nice start with Mr. Pine... my 2nd favorite after Telescope Eyes.

Austin Setlist:

01. Mr. Pine
02. My Lovely
03. The Escaping Song
04. Memories
05. Plenty Of Paper
06. Golly Sandra
07. I Wasn't Prepared
08. They All Surrounded Me
09. Telescope Eyes
10. Marvelous Things

Great show and it seemed, from the reactions on everyone's faces, that the response was well above average. Glad Austin could make you feel at home.

yea, that show was absolutely incredible. they sound so good live. they are all really nice and hung around afterwards. i got stacy and the gang to sign my cell phone. i was exactly front row center. if i stuck out my arm, i would be touching her Rhodes. it was insane.

i went, i saw, i gushed. such a great show. it was awesome to be so close - we could have like stolen sherri's set list! when i think about the fact that last time i saw them i was in the back of a huge ampitheather (sp?) in grand prairie, this was quite an experience.

no disrespect intended for snow patrol, but after eisley was done we were so disappointed we couldn't hear more that we decided to just drive on back to waco. not really a snow patrol fan anyways. great job guys!

i think i'm going to have to go to their next show just to meet them. they seem so cool. the whole fam. seriously, they're some kind of phenomenon.

random question: why wasn't there more eisley merch? i really wanted to get a shirt but they hardly had anything there.
