I'm just not voting in this one. I love both albums too much and really, the only one I really rank above the others is Kid A, but only by a little bit. I agree with Eddie on Pablo Honey being the "mediocre" one. I don't have the album, but from what I've heard, Creep and the acoustic version of Blow Out are really the only things from/related to Pablo Honey that I've really enjoyed (though I did get a good laugh from the Anyone Can Play Guitar video). Anyway, to each his own. Think whatever you want to think. _________________ Blaahg Mahspace Audioscrobbler

Pablo Honey gets the shaft. It's really a solid album. You're not going to have any of the experimentation of the later albums (save for a really nice three-guitar attack), and it's not reallly groundbreaking (but honestly, The Bends was a standard good rock album, and everyone loves it), but it's got some good music on it. It's their rawest form, and you can see glimpses of their influences (like the Pixies), and of their future. But I guess Pablo Honey is the hip Radiohead album to bash. So, whatever. I like it for the same reason I like the other Radiohead albums — It has good music. _________________ My photography:www.jamiemphoto.com You can't spell awesome without emo...backwards! -Julie definingawesome (11:44:11 PM): Eisley shivers our timbers |

Calm down now. Maybe you two "Pablo Honey" lovers can find a quiet corner, make out and then talk over how a bad wall of guitars and uncreative Kinks ripoffs make for good listening. In my book, however, it's the low point in Radiohead's creative pantheon. It's not a bad record, in the way that the first couple Oasis albums aren't bad. There's semi-memorable stuff, even if Thom Yorke is completely cribbing from Ian McCulloch and Morrissey. It's the launching point but it sure ain't no classic. _________________ "It's the new golden fact." |

I can see what you mean by Pablo Honey being the hip one to bash and it really is sad. I don't even own the album, so it was very wrong of me to call it mediocre in any way since I haven't formed my full opinion on it. I must say that I really like the vocals that I've heard and the Pixies influence that Jamie mentioned, but some of it kind of rubbed me the wrong way. Musically, what I've heard hasn't really fit with my tastes or what I've really liked about them. Of course, I might get it one day and think it's fantastic. You just don't know with music. _________________ Blaahg Mahspace Audioscrobbler

(Just saying...) no one really said it was the best, i think jamie and i are just tired of EVERYONE bashing the hell out of a decent album. Sure it's poppy, and it may rip off some ideas, but its a good album, and 9 times out of 10 people are bashing it because they think they know radiohead and like Jamie said it's the cool thing to do to bash Pablo Honey. I'm just really erked by every college student who likes radiohead, not because they like radiohead, but because college students are supposed to like radiohead. Me-"Oh you listen to radiohead, sweet. Wasn't Optimistic such a out of place song on Kid A? I mean it worked, but, seemed sort of odd" College STudent- *blank stare* "I like Ok Computer...." Me-"Yeah that's a good album, what's your favorite track?" College Student- *pause* "Um....Karma Police" Me-"....Have you actually listened to the album? I kinda like Airplane..." College Student- " Yeah i love that song" Me-"There is no song called Airplane, jack ass...." _________________ welcome to the no pants club boone |

(Not talking about anyone here) I always have to ignore Radiohead fans. Pablo Honey was one of the best albums of the early mid '90s. And those albums kicked major tail ... Maybe it's because of what Radiohead was introduced to me as. I discovered them when PH came out. A lot of people now discovered them when KidA came out. (I feel Kid A is overrated ... though still very, very good.) So Radiohead to a more current generation is KidA/OK Computer ... Modern Radiohead to me was born from Pablo Honey. Is this because good music can't be straightforward? Does it always have to take a back door? Is there anything inherently unartistic about an electric guitar (or three in Radiohead's case), bass and drums and a good singer? Do you always have to resort to three synths and a random collection of other instruments? A lot of acoustic guitars? Why can't a good song be a good song? Pablo Honey is a lot like all of Radiohead's other albums: It has some darn good songs. _________________ My photography:www.jamiemphoto.com You can't spell awesome without emo...backwards! -Julie definingawesome (11:44:11 PM): Eisley shivers our timbers |

i always kinda considered pablo honey to be the "creep" single, more or less. sure, there are some good songs on it, and sure, it's definitely an above-average album, but the bends, ok computer, kid a, amnesiac and hail to the thief are all so good that it's easy to overshadow pablo honey. |
