i go to a church of the brethren... its a little, quaint, pacifist church that most people haven't heard of... i love it. no external doctrine besides the golden rule (just a simple little Jesus church, sprung about 200 years ago from the German Baptist church). Personally i believe that our lives are in and of themselves a ministry for the common good of the world... right now i'm a terribly confused little boy who no longer considers himself a christian, but i still believe what i stated above, and i still go to my church because im sort of in a healing process, and those things i've stated arent so much a part of what i believe as they are a part of my personality...

I don't agree with any denominations. Churches are all about hierarchy, politics, and money. Even when they say they aren't, they are. I don't agree with them, they don't agree with me.

I just noticed that that isn't an option. I went to a Methodist church this morning... it was very different from my traditional Baptist church. Not bad different - interesting different.

Hmmm. There's a little irony there since you started this thread. Kinda funny... but not in a bad way (if that makes sense at all).

By the way, where are my fellow Catholics? Oh wait... they're probably at church right now. Ooops! Wink

to clear up - i was not profiling or generalizing the Catholic church itself, i just know some catholics who separate themselves arrogantly from other Christians. i have other Catholic friends who are amazing people.

I didn't read all the other pages so sorry if somebody already said this, but I just wanted to say that the opposite thing happened to me. While I was in the states I was even asked if in my country we "were mostly Catholic or Christian" by a Presbyterian woman...I was like Shocked

That is how a lot of people think of it, but they are wrong.

I find it funny that the religious and political threads on this forum are the most despised threads....yet the most popular.

I'm proud to say I'm a Baptist. Don't be ashamed if you are too. Or if you're not. Having strong convictions is important.

Regardless of denomination, I've met many of the extreems. I used to work in an office where one guy who was Catholic believed the Pope was completely infallable and would believe and do anything he said, then another guy just a few cubicles over who too was Catholic believed the Pope was the same as any other man, cappable of failing, and believed only if the Bible clearly backed it up.
I've met Baptist who believe any form of dancing, alcohol, cigs, etc. was very bad, and other Baptists who have no problem with a social drink and dancing with their spouse so long as not to get drunk and stuff.

So, no "denomination" has a monopoly on the truth. Ultimately, if you want to know the truth yourself, just read the Bible and if you are sincerely wanting to know the truth, the Holy Ghost will reveal truth to you as you read. I would suggest to NOT read any commentaries until at least after you have read it yourself and started forming your own conclusions. Don't let someone elses opinion give you pre conceived notions about what any particular passage means.
