Yeah, Sixpence has been around longer(and successfully for that matter) than most people expect because they didn't end up with mainstream radio-play until their self-titled cd came out(which Kiss Me was on). But it is so sad that they are no longer in existence. And yeah, Stacy sounds more like Leigh Nash than Sherri. At least to me, mostly because Leigh Nash's voice is a bit breathy and slightly raspy and Stacy has that subtle breathiness to her voice, while Sherri's vocals are more clean. _________________ Thistledown |

When I first heard Eisley, that's definitely what caught my attention... (the fact that they reminded me so much of Sixpence). But the more you listen to Eisley, the more you realize Eisley's just Eisley. As much as I want Eisley to fill my Sixpence void, it ain't happening.......... but Eisley still serves as an excellent comfort for my aching musical soul Oh man, imagine the day Eisley stops making music... I wonder who will comfort me then. (i bet someone's gonna yell it me for even considering that notion lol) |

Yeah, the only actual similarities I do hear between Eisley and Sixpence is the vocals. Eisley's music is uniquely theirs, just as it is with Sixpence. _________________ Thistledown |

I think the biggest difference between sixpence and Eisley comes by the way of the lyrical content. While both do seemed to paint brilliant word pictures in their music, Sixpence would have usually two or three tracks on a CD that would definitely portray a Christian worldview or faith perspective (and in my opinion, they would do it in such a way that no other "Christian" music as been able to do in my opinion). Eisley, seems to not really dive into the whole Christian faith thing in their lyrics...which is fine by me, but does serve as a major difference between the two groups. Another major difference is that Eisley's harmonies far exceed any harmonies that Sixpence was ever able to achieve throughout their career. I do think that their overall sound and tempo is VERY similar to sixpence...not quit as much strings in Eisley (if any?), but i think that the tempo and feel is very similar to Sixpence's last album, Divine Discontent. But, yes, like any group that you have listened too enough, you begin to notice major differences. This usually only happens after you have become very familiar with an artist...kind of like i think all new country music sounds the same or rap music sounds the same. I know people who really like this type of music and they would think such a comment his ridiculous. The more i listen to them, the more the differences do stand out. |

I have some interesting news. The label (WB) may be partly to blame for Eisley's lack of radio airtime. I called a local radio station (Mix 94.7) to request Eisley (I do it about once a week). When I called yesterday she said she didn't have any Eisley, and that she wouldn't have any until the record label sent it to her station. How can a big company like WB not afford to send a copy of Telescope Eyes to every radio station that would play Eisley? Seems like they could be doing more to promote the band. My guess is that they are waiting for the band to generate some momentum before releaing telescope eyes to radio. It seems to be a trend now to really stretch out a CD... Since Sixpence has been mentioned much here, they would probably provide a good example. The Self Titled release was out a long time and a lot of promotion was done before "Kiss Me" was actually ever released to radio. I notice that a lot of songs have videos for singles out way before i see their song "going for adds" at radioandrecords.com (this is the site that monitors radio play of songs in all formats). |
