I'm watching Marvelous Things right now. It's marvelous. Wow, these videos are playing very well on my pc. I guess it's convenient having a pc sometimes. Like when places like VH-1 don't do anything for Mac. Even though I don't have a Mac.

I just got done watching Marvelous Things. It's nice to really be able to hear Chauntelle's guitar in that song. In the recording and some of the videos I've seen of it, her guitar always seems to get lost in the mix.

That was some high-quality video right there. I noticed when I was watching Memories that it was streaming at 691k. That rarely happens. I'm lucky if I can get it to stream well at 300k.

yea, that stupid DRM (digital rights management). damn microsoft and their drm!

i was able to download the files on my Mac and they're about 25mb each, but since they're drm-protected, they won't play in WMP or VLC. so, i have the files, but i can't view them at all. i searched for a way to remove the drm, but couldn't find a way. so, the files are un-encodeable. unless someone comes to the rescue...

anyone able to record the audio from these vids?

I'm going to try to do that and i'll get back to you with how that goes.

anyway, there's a devious recording method i've just thought up: Route the output (where you plug in your headphones, etc) of your soundcard back into the input (record) of your soundcard with the proper cable and viola, your own devious way to record anything that streams.

ooo, yea, tell us how it goes

i guess that output > input thing could work as long as you have the, as you said, proper cable. or you can record the audio using a program like audiohijack (for Mac). but i can't even listen to the audio of these files. i even tried extracting the audio using an extractor, but to no avail. out of all the Windows peeps on here, there has got to be at least one person that can post the audio to these. if not forumlurker, then someone else. i guess i just have to give it some time...

apparently theres an easy way to do it with freaky software that does it for you. you don't have to route output > input. oh well, you learn something new everyday.

The problems are that (1) Microsoft hasn't released a version of WMP for the Mac that supports their latest DRM and (2) they don't adhere to web standards either so sometimes embedded WMV files will only play on IE for Windows specifically, not even FireFox for Windows, if they so choose.

Anyone else think this whole DRM thing has gotten out of hand? Pretty soon we won't be able to watch or listen to anything without configuration details, personal details, listening habits, etc. being uploaded to God know who.

Not if Apple has anything to say Very Happy

Luckily they're winning the digital music war. Mwahaha.

And VH-1 is just lazy, they could easily make it work. There's no DRM on those WMV files, and if there is, they're even LAZIER.

I'm gonna see what I can do about getting the files to Mac users and people who can't get the site to work period. Too bad it's turning out harder than extracting the Launch videos from Yahoo.

Apple's DRM can be every bit as devious. Notice how you used to be able to burn 10 CDs of any given playlist, but now you only get 7? And with each successive version of iTunes, they remove functionality. Little by little, they're becoming just as bad as Microsoft.

Fortunately, they have yet to be as bad as Napster.

That's not a concession Apple wanted to make. Record labels are continually hounding apple to change their DRM to make it more "suitable" to them, Apple really has no choice but to comply (but still fight it and make it FAIR), so some changes are made.

Do you REALLY need to burn the exact same playlist 7 times? Besides, you can change where in the playlist a single song is and it'll give you another 7 burns. I've never even come close to hitting the limit.
