I was just surfing around and came across this band from Sweden. Looks like they started out as Mos Eisley and the changed there name to Eisley too.
When I say I can't get enough of Eisley this isn't what I mean.

This pops up from time to time.
I do not know if those guys are still a band.
Their website says, " Look for a release in the end of 2002"
and the last shows they had listed were in 2002.

The US EISLEY has rights to the name now, so I am not sure about the Sweden band. Question

I think Chelsea's pulling a Dave Chappelle. Going crazy and leaving...

I think it's common for bands from different countries to have the same name as one from the US. And it's usually all right if, say, a Swedish band doesn't really care to export their music to the US. Usually once a band becomes global, then copyright issues are thought of.

i think its like a copywrite/trademark type thing.
labels or w/e buy the name, so they can sue people if someone trys to use the name and get money out of it.
like how eisley had to change their original name so they wouldnt be sued by gorge lucas.

But you can't copyright book titles. Does it work differently with music?

They didn't have to, they just did it to be safe because if it ever became an issue, the band would likely have lost a lawsuit.

I think you can't copyright band names
however, you can own the rights to merchandise and distributing CD's under that band name
so basically that's how you copyright your band name, but like... unofficially officially
if anyone understands this post
then you are a genious.
