small gesture, but noteworthy given how the band (and boyd) seem to be huge fans of him. Not to mention the encounter ya'll had with him the other night

Whoa, that's really cool. That Texas charm! I think if one of my favorite bands put me in their top eight, I would start hyperventilating. Lol. The top eight is a great tool. So many people check out their friends' myspaces and if they see a band that their friend likes, they're most likely going to check 'em out so they have cool points with that friend.
