 Post subject: Oh yes SUCCESS!Posted: Sun Sep 09, 2007 1:29 pm 
i am finally going to my first Eisley concert at HOB in chicago. i am so excited. what i am not excited about is how ticketmaster rips you off however i cannot complain because I HAVE TICKETS TO EISLEY! my goal is to meet them all. is that too much too ask? i have some questions though (because i have never really been to a real concert before) how early should i arrive? how late should i stay if i want to meet the band? any other advice such as "how to politely push your way to the front while dragging along your mom" would be great too. _________________ Say something witty, dammit! http://kimschaefer.bandcamp.com/ http://youtube.com/kimschaefermusic |

"how early should i arrive?" I went to my first concert this spring and we got to the building about a half hour before the show was supposed to start (it started almost an hour after we got there...but the show was worth the wait  ).

I've been a good 4+ hours early to a few concerts. It all matters where you want to be during the show. how last should you stay: Eisley is opening and so they should be haning around their merch booth after their set. how to push: there is not "polite" way to do that. I usualy elbow people in the side when they try to push past me (while the band is on/when I'm really close). word to the wise....at a NFG show (that Eisley was opening for) I was in the 2nd row with some of my friends and before Eisley went on I asked these girls in front of us "Hey, is it okay if we switch you all spot for the opening act. We're just here for them and are leaving after they're done." They told us to f-off and turned back around. People don't like giving up their spots to anyone. I'm planning on not being towards the front for this show. The venue they're playing at has a level that's even with the stage and then a lower (by about 4 feet) for those who want to be close to the stage. I'm planning on just staying on the stage level. |

"how early should i arrive?" I usually work it out from a combination of number of bands on, time that doors open, and general knowlege about the venue. For example: venue: cab vol, edinburgh. doors open: 7.00. Club night? yes. Gig'll end 10.00. thus the main support will be on about 8. This is not an exact science. If you don't know the venue, which i'm guessing you don't, your best bet is to phone 'em up and ask what time they'll be on, or just get there for doors openin. i've been to a couple of gigs with some colleages before, and they generally take "doors opening" time (the time that's on the ticket) to mean "show starting" time. Me? I get there when i feel like it... if i can be bothered seeing supports and all that. "how late should i stay if i want to meet the band?" Eisley are incredibly easy to meet. certainly on the first London gig everyone was hanging out for probably about an hour. 
If they're the support (this is the Mute Math tour, right?), then not late at all. From experience, they like to watch the other bands. As Oliez said, there really is no "polite" way to push, unless you're king or queen of fans, in which case people will just bow out of your way... get there early and you'll be fine. Hefted knowlege again gives me a vague equation (popularity of the band Vs how much i like the band Vs how many valuable items i have on me Vs how tired I am etc) determines where i'll be at a show. other bits of random ramblings. being at the front really doesn't matter. Indeed, being further back has some advantages, such as being able to see all the band without craning your neck, having a better view (depending on stage height etc), sound mixing. Oh, and not being crushed against the barrier. and also, you're nearer to that wonderful thing that's oh so neccesary at gigs: the bar. be yourself if you wanna dance or sing, go for it. people don't care as long as you aint obnoxious. front? can't stand being at the front when i don't know the foggiest about the band. when I saw Mute Math, someone from the front left. i was second "row". A gig bud told me to move into it, and i was like "naaah! i aint a big enough fan!" i relented... _________________ She is handsome, she is pretty, she is the girl from Belfast City, she is courtin' one two three, please won't you tell me who is she? When I finally got to see Eisley in 2005, after a good long stretch of listening to the EPs over and over and over, I was so excited I felt nauseous on the way there. But even so it was better than I thought it would be . I insisted on being up front, right in front of Chauntelle. And it wasn't difficult; I just said "excuse me" a lot. sorry that ur first eisley concert is them opening for another band but it will be exciting anyway and mute math is an awesome act as well so....it works out. As for pushing your way up front, just don't do it unless you see a space to fill. It really sucks and the people who are already up front want to be there as much as you do. Plus being up front all together is kind of overrated and unless you want good pics or something, you can enjoy the band five rows back just as much as being up front. _________________ But I cannot discover any advantage except in honor, in glory, and in right action.
