Weird, I always assumed the whole bit with the constant Starbucks references was a Warner orchestrated product placement deal. I'm not very plugged in, but are you all sure it isn't? I'm not doubting the band's sincere enjoyment of the product, but the consistency of the references sometimes has the air of a '50s radio commercial. Not that I'ld begrudge them that if it were true (or becomes true)- the industry is changing and bands are finding it harder and harder to make a decent living in the traditional ways. They gotta find revenue somewhere or get day jobs. And as I understand they're own record company sure isn't pulling their weight on financial backing. Anyway- Yo la tengo's been making commercials for years- doesn't seemed to have hurt their cred. |

From my experience, a lot of bands are walking Starbucks commercials, and they aren't being paid. LOL But if they were being paid, they might be in trouble since they rather gave a bit of a head's up to one of their competitors last time they were in SLC. LOL |
