I've always wondered what Kim sounds like! Are there any radio or other interviews that she is on? I've heard her sing way down in the mix on a church video, but I would really like to hear her speaking voice!

She had quite a twang in her voice from that "O, Beautiful Star of Bethlehem" video, but that's all I remember.

ha ha! we do fight the "twang" here, but we mock it so much, it just comes out in our everyday speaking.
I was born and raised in Houston, (very multi-cultural), and for a long time, really didn't have the Texas twang, but after 18 years in East Texas, you just can't avoid it. Smile

P.S. and the video you speak of was intentional in trying to capture the Judd's style.

I see. I've never seen or heard the Judds perform, so I can only speak out of ignorance.

No not really...you probably were not far off!
I do try to correct the twang when/if I hear it while speaking or singing, but sometimes it's hard. Wink

i'll take this opportunity to ask something i've wondered a while:

how did your family go from Judd heavy listening to OK Computer?

i've heard that talked about in several interviews over the years, but i've never heard exactly how it happened - a friend told you you just had to listen to it, or you saw the Karma Police video on MTV one day and it blew your mind (this is my story), etc.?

btw, when i listen to the radio i listen to The Ranch 104.1 in Tyler and they play the Judds now and then. i forget which are actual "The Judds" songs and just Wynona solo.

ok, wait, i know these (after wiki check):
Why Not Me?
Girls Night Out
Mama He's Crazy
Turn It Loose
Have Mercy
Rockin with the Rhythm in the Rain

now i have that part of that song in my head where they make 'moan' a three syllable word:

"i love the mo-o-oan of an old blues harp"

That's hilarious: "Don't put it around your body again, it'll cut you in half."

having had the pleasure of hearing mama eisley sing countless times at the Vineyard, here's my opinion, in humble words...

she doesn't really sound like sherri or stacy or christie or chauntelle. it's deeper; elements are the same; if any of the girls sound like her, i thought the chauntelle song that appeared after her songwriting weekend at the Hanson household a few years back shows which one sounds most like her. but Kim's voice is definitely her own, and it has something that the girls don't have...yet. her voice has a wisdom and knowledge that only comes from age and experiences. and yet, it gets into the question of, "what makes a voice a voice?" unlike the girls, kim's not singing songs she's written. that's important, because those who interpret have to add something to the song: passion. belief. understanding. consider Elvis Presley. he never wrote a single one of his songs, but he sings them with the same conviction as a songwriter who wrote a wonderful lyric.

it's the same with Kim. when i've heard her sing, it takes very little time to realize that she believes what she sings, and, more importantly, has the power to make you believe the words she sings. and when the girls sing, her voice fits in beautifully with them, a metaphysical bond that only comes from the family bond. and when she sings she often introduces the songs with words of wisdom--beautiful words that will make you think.

but you know what? the passion and love in Kim's voice, it's not unique. go to any church on any Sunday, and you'll find plenty of people there singing with the same love and conviction as Kim does when she sings on that little stage with her talented and lovely family. because she's singing praises. p-r-a-i-s-e-s. what she does, it's leading the praising of God TO God.

by the way, i haven't been to a Vineyard service in over two years. it seems like forever. i have a great church home i am active in because tyler's far away from where i'm at now but i think back warmly to hearing the praise team singing. it's been too long.

i just had to chime in and give Mrs. DuPree the tribute she deserves. (i hope you don't mind, Kim; I know you don't seek out such attention but i just felt inspired to answer a question that some were asking)
