A friend of mine Hana Pestle did a great little cover of "Ambulance". It's pretty cool to hear a cover w/ guitar & vocals only. Check it out! She's got a great voice. I still think she'd rule opening for Eisley on a tour someday. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U5C1zmyD_9I Side note: did anyone here go to that acoustic session at The Hideout @ SXSW? We were both there... maybe you saw us? _________________ |

Great voice, hit those notes effortlessly. She has a precise voice, Opera worthy. Guitar-wise, that Flange didn't suit me, a nice warm clean tone with a good amount of reverb would be more to my liking, and there's a minor chord in a "Beatley" voicing at the end of the verses that I think may be incorrect, that colors the melody in a vintage hue. It works, but the feel of that chord progression alters the feel of the song, and undercuts her vocal, which is true to the original. So yeah, I'm impressed. All the talent in the world on display right there. Just a simple production issue/ pet peeve (just not a fan of Flange in certain contexts). _________________ yup, that's my name. A couple of guitar bits sounded off, but she has a lovely voice. _________________ INTELLECT AND ROMANCE OVER BRUTE FORCE AND CYNICISM Smokemonster |

I know I'd probably have a hard time trying to take a song that's more piano-based and coming up with some kind of guitar part instead... not that I even know how to play the guitar. Guess that's why I don't nitpick about guitar, but if I hear a piano cover on youtube and it's a bit off then I'll notice because I can play the piano. So yeah, I think it all sounds pretty good. As a Uncle, and younger brother that is not a Douchebag, a part time journalist, soundman, and musician... regardless of how pretty a girl is, or handsome a guy is, the first thing I do, is look past that and get to the business at hand of what I hear. It's really easy to be biased, and I used to be pretty bad about it. It helps in the end cause whenever looks get involved, it jacks things up. If some pretty girl on Youtube covers a song by a "less pretty" artist I like, which isn't the case here, but has supposedly been the case with other artists I like, it's sort of demoralizing if the artist I like doesn't seem to be successful. so yeah, I notice, and then the next thing I do is "reject the pretty" on general principle. It's not that hard in the end. Now if the music and the performer are both 100% stunning, to the point of being unreal/ too good to be true, I tend to black out. See, I was going to give an example of some "Perfect 10" with the voice of an angel, and I'm sure I've come across a few in my listening, but for the life of me I can't remember a 1 of them right now. I have odd taste in women anyways, moreso because of the lumps I've taken from the edgy arty type over the years. But now and then I get a crush on an actual song, if not the artist like this one and this and this _________________ yup, that's my name. i liked it pretty alright. i'm pretty picky about girl singers. and i think she did sing some of the parts kind of quickly, its a deep song lots of feelings are felt in it, but i love how stacy sings it waay better obviously, but she does have a nice voice |

You know, I was struggling to put a finger on what it was about that voice, and I followed the myspace to listen to some more songs, because youtube has be unreliable for me lately. That said, "Ben Moody Street Team" jumped out at me, like AHA! Amy Lee. That's the aspect of the voice I couldn't pin down, the Operatic clarity, on the song Need, Nice to hear her nail the guitar (for the most part) for the Buckley version of Hallelujah, even if she went against Mr. Cohen's wishes. _________________ yup, that's my name. Yeah, Amy is probably the main person the gets compared to. She seems to get compared to Jewel a lot, too... and sometimes Sarah McLachlan. _________________ |

No disrespect to Jewel, I prefer Hana to her, cause Jewel seems dead set and determined to never hold a straight note, she always wavers, and never sing in a consistent voice on a song, the baby coo to Broadway belting wore out it's welcome with me. Hana, from the tracks I've heard, doesn't overplay her range to the point where it becomes a distraction. Folks are knocking her breath control, but it's not like she was in the booth doing takes of vox solo without playing at the same time. There's another Eisley cover out there that Jbaker would like http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H_VxrLGAwco and Gundamit would scrutinize any comment I made... _________________ yup, that's my name.
