just a little defense of paul:

Paul was actually the most experimental of the bunch.
He released the first "solo record," if you will, in 1967, with his Family Way soundtrack. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Family_Way_%28soundtrack%29

"Carnival of Light" was a noise collage he made in 1967.

Paul was the one who pulled John off of his couch and out to the art clubs and galleries.

Paul financially supported underground clubs and publications

Paul wanted Apple Records to be the cutting edge of the art world.

Yoko Ono's first Beatle target was Paul, not John.

^ I think it counters the "Radio Friendly" bit, if that's meant to say Paul was shallow and not an artiste which some would infer (perhaps defensively?).

I don't know if being into art and underground cultural movements makes you introspective, so I don't think it covers that necessarily, at least as far as I'm concerned sense "scenes" can sometimes be as shallow as it gets.

Paul's ambitions fit the insight I've gotten into his temperament from interviews with the other Beatles and hangers on. John threw him under the bus in a few of interviews on that subject (Paul's ambition and shrewdness). The guy was/ is driven. Don't cross him when he's on about something.
