Yes, 7.99 was the shelf price at the Best Buy I went to.

#66 on Billboard 200!!?!
I want to say the Valley was #78 or something like that? I wonder what the unit difference is though . . .

Room Noises was 189
Combinations was 70
The Valley was 80

So this is officially their highest charting debut Smile I hope it also means more units sold!

Currents also debuted
#22 Rock albums
#11 Independent Albums
#17 Alternative Albums

This album really is a slow burner. Usually either The Night Comes, Wonder English, Real World, Wicked Child or Millstone will start playing in my head and make me want to listen to the whole album again. It's infectious, the melodies and everything. I've been more and more impressed with it's brilliance. I'm loving it!

Anyone have any way of finding out how many albums sold that #66 translates to? O_o

depends. the business has changed a lot. whitechapel for instance got on billboard a few years back for not selling very many copies.

Rankings are relative to total number of sales in a given week.

In the best of times with physical cds #1 might sell 500K - 1.5 million in one week, where as #100 might sell 10K - 100K

In more recent times with physical cds & vinyl #1 might sell 75K - 200K and #100 might sell ???

Here's soundscan numbers for the week of 5/29

http://vakseen.com/site/nielsen-soundscan-sales-52913/

Daft Punk was number 1 with roughly 340K in sales (pretty sure that's units, not dollars)
Number 30 was Taylor Swift's Red with 12k

The week of 6/5 Daft Punk was still #1 but with 93K and Taylor was still #30 but with 12.6K

artists only get a small percentage of the sale price of cds. often less than 10 cents on the dollar. Back in the day 8 cents on the dollar was a great royalty rate. That was Gun's and Roses deal. So for a $10 cd they got 80 cents. So, if you apply that to the numbers, multiply those gross numbers by .8 and you get their gross royalties, but from those all the label costs to manufacture and distribute the cds and any promotional material or advances to cover costs of recording...

In Taylor Swift's case, her cd has more than covered its costs, so last week she would have made $1040.00 off music sales before taxes if she made a 8% royalty.

Then you have to pay your managers, publicists, accountants, bills etc... It's pretty easy to come out losing money ultimately.

Marketing was really poor for this album.

If I had a band I would do my own grassroots marketing by interacting with fans and taking youtube cover requests and $#@!.

There are a lot of great ways to get your product out there that doesn't cost anything.

2013 and I can't say SHIP with a T on this forum :\

Hmm, I'm guessing it sold around 6 thousand copies.

hard to say. i know that if albums get sold too early, the early sales don't get counted by soundscan.

Thinking that probably doesn't include pre-orders. A huge portion of Eisley's fan base is the fanatic pre-ordering kind, not the "Oh, I'm gonna pick that up at Wal Mart" kind.

The problem is, preorders would be from previous weeks and possibly not enough to make the full chart...

The fact that they have 23 orders listed for the week before it made it on the charts makes it seem like they at least track them, but on the flip side the retail sales to date ought to be much higher. I don't know if MERCHNOW reports presales to soundscan before hand, since technically they are preorders and the official release date regardless of shipping was 5/28 when we got our downloads. Same for Amazon.com and other vendors.

I also don't know who Soundscan deals with digital sales.

I feel like pre-orders must count in some fashion. I remember when Soundgarden's greatest hits album came out, it got boosted way up in the charts because it came packaged with the latest Guitar Hero game, so all the copies that Activision bought to include with the game were counted and the album wasn't even officially released yet. So there's got to be some weird quirk that accounts for that kind of thing.

I always just assumed pre-orders automatically count towards the first week total.
