Is part of it in 6|4? you mean 6/8? or 3/4 depending on how you want to look at it. the cool guitar part in the chorus is in 6/8. p.s. how can you tell it's in 6|8 and not 6|4? this is hard to explain over a computer, but 6/8 means six -eighth notes. whereas 6/4 is six quarter notes. so it goes - ONE two three FOUR five six ONE two three FOUR five six. if it were 6/4 it would go ONE and TWO and THREE and FOUR and FIVE and SIX ONE and TWO and THREE and FOUR and FIVE and SIX . the CAPITAL letters are the downbeats, or the accents. ugh. this is really hard to explain. do you get it? ill try to think of a song in 6/4. im sure the Volta has a few i know they use 6/8 a lot. But when I was counting it I was counting it as ONE two three FOUR five six, ONE two three FOUR five six... I guess I understand, it just doesn't completely make sense, because lately I've been playing Money by Pink Floyd, which is in 7/4... and I play it like, ugh, I dunno how to explain it, either. Haha. When you say ONE and TWO and THREE, ect... I assume you mean the analasys? Like, 1e-n-d 2e-n-d? I know some people say it differently than I do, so I just want to be sure that's what you mean. yeah, thats what i mean. so, the 6/8 part goes (im doing this technically as 3/4, but there isnt much difference) ONE two three TWO two three. 1-e-and 2-e-and. tempo has a lot to do with it too... weston starts out the song with quarter notes on his jingle bells, that sets the tempo of the song. so, during the cool guitar 6/8 part, it seems like it speeds up almost, thats the time signature switching from quarter note based rhythms to eighth note rhythms. kapish? haha i love that word. ok, now listen to the song, starting right before the cool part. so it goes (this is one measure before the time sig. switch) ONE TWO THREE FOUR (switch!) ONE two three four five six TWO two three four five six THREE two three four five six FOUR two three for five six (repeat). i hope its cool. just tryin to show you from my point of view _________________ Flutter girl killing me with her sunshine... she's so unaware that she's my melpomene. hi www.myspace.com/musicislove |

If anyone is on the bleeding edge of technological bliss (Like Garron is, he has one), I encoded the Many Funerals video into iPod Video format... for the record, it looks amazing on an iPod, and it even looks good full screen on a computer. You just have to have the latest version of Quicktime (7) to play it. http://www.eisley.com/tourpics/switchfoot/newyork/manyfuneralsNorva.m4 v For the record, I love this song... I still jump out of my merch area into the crowd whenever it's played, and we're 16 shows in. Oh also, right-click/ctrl-click and Save As, because Eisley's web server doesn't have the MIME type for M4V and will just display it as crazy text. _________________ |

that is such a COOL song! I love the chords. So old-school, like, Medieval-school. The very beggining. that's now my favourite Eisley song. Really, it is. _________________ She is handsome, she is pretty, she is the girl from Belfast City, she is courtin' one two three, please won't you tell me who is she? Ummm... I don't even think there is one time signature that can do that. I guess you could have 5/4? ONE two three FOUR five, ONE two three FOUR five Take Five by Dave Brubeck does that. But Many Funerals is definitely not in 5/4 _________________ my name's carrie and i love a good sandwich so if you have a sandwich, come roll with me! i'm gonna marry the mars volta. |

bigideas wrote: i'm not talking about Many Funerals, but the rhythm of a song i've written. maybe more than one. You could be switching on and off from 3/4 and 2/4, or you COULD possibly have something in 5/4. Do you have a recording of it that I can hear? If it goes ONE two three ONE two three ONE two ONE two three ONE two three ONE two... it just sounds like you're switching between two different time signatures. Maybe even 3/4 and 5/4... _________________ my name's carrie and i love a good sandwich so if you have a sandwich, come roll with me! i'm gonna marry the mars volta. |
