I'm trying to decide which laptop I should get when school starts in the fall. My parents want me to get a Dell. I want an Apple.

And......go.

ETA:
My parents are going to be paying for it and they're convinced that a Dell will be better. I've pretty much gone to every message board I post at and so far, everyone has said Apple.

Also, the campus computer store only offers discounts on Dell and Apples. Which why those are my only two options.

Apple iBook or Powerbook would be my suggestion. Boyd and Eisley would probably approve.

However, with that said, if your parents are looking for the most bang for their buck... Dell would be the winner (Dell's are cheaper, sometimes significantly so).

Since the DELL would most likely be running Windows, it probably has the advantage when it comes to software compatibility (which may play a role with any software you may work with in your courses).

*** And remember... extended warranties are suppose to be your friend... so get it...

that reminded me
one kid in my japanese class had a mac, and the class had a cd you needed (which only ran on windows 95 and took me forever to figure out how to get it to work...anyway) but it was only for windows. if you wanted the mac version you had to special order it and it cost like 20 bucks extra plus shipping
the day that all software is made equal between mac and PC, is the day that mac has nothing holding it back...except maybe power...

You will probably be able to Dual boot...
OSX and Windows on your sleek looking PowerBook.

And with Intel working on virtualization technology with their multiple core CPU's... you may be able to run... BOTH... on it, at the same time (in the future).

That has less to do with a Mac or a Dell and the person designing the website...
All they have to do is code their website according to the standards and all websites should look fine on almost every browser, IE, FF, Safari, etc.

yup, every browser displays webpages differently in a way. if you wanna test it, you can open up your web browsers, like IE, NS, Safari (mac), FireFox, and whatever, and open a website. take a screenshot of each and see where they differ. or just leave them all open. and see which browser displays your website best. and then you can put on the homepage, "best viewed in *insert best browser*"

anyway, i like Macs. i've been using them since i was around 6 or 7 years old. i've used Windows at school and friend's houses and never liked them. or you could probably install Linux on a Dell, but not sure. i don't think you'd want to do that though, haha.

the intel chips won't be shipping with macs until next summer i think. but steve knows what he's doing, so i don't have any worries with apple's decision in doing this transition even with their history.

in the great words of the almighty god that is Boyd...
"Good luck every body and I wish you all had Apple Computers!"

get a mac.
