If someone is willing to put themselves down to that level for me, I would take it as a compliment.

because we can't physically hug...now can we shain? can we!?

you are challenging the absolute reality of the online world, this is a debate far bigger than any of us could settle. Why am I typing this and not calling you on the phone? Is a phone call even as "valuable" as a physical contact conversation?

there is no real answer, it's whatever you think.
personally, e-hugs (not iHugs...you macintosh slave... Very Happy ) are pretty much as valuable as a physical hug in the same situation. the purpose is usually to provide comfort, and so really it doesn't matter if its physical contact or not, ultimately it's simply a means of showing sympathy.

so HA!

PS- get better soon and make more music

Well, I think the answer is a lot simpler than people make it out to be. I don't think that people say it because they can't really hug in reality. I mean... I've never gotten as many hugs in real life from people I only kinda know as I have in e-life.

IM and email tends to be very abbreviated, and we also tend to say a lot of things that aren't actually always true (like lol or rofl). So saying *hug* is more about easily conveying a certain sentiment or feelings than it is about wanting to go and hug somebody. It's about quickly expressing something like "I'm very happy for you" or "I'm very sorry that this unfortunate event has occurred to make you upset" or whatever the case is.

Or something like that.

Like said before, it's just about showing someone you care.

My boyfriend would do that when we were talking on aim, and I was upset or something, because it was a form of comfort for me.

Boy, I miss those.

I don't like when people say, "i heart" either.

Both 'heart' and '*hug*' are lame. I think.

Some people think talking to people they don't know online is "lame".

So that's their opinion, then. I don't really care.
