I just feel put off when the only response to something is a link to another thread. It seems a little rude to me. It's probably fine when someone like Bob does it, because he's a good poster and knows how things are around here, but I think it puts people off when they try to get involved and all they get is a link and directions to use search. Just a little thing that's bothered me lately. P.S. I miss cable a little bit. _________________ My photography:www.jamiemphoto.com You can't spell awesome without emo...backwards! -Julie definingawesome (11:44:11 PM): Eisley shivers our timbers |

A lot of people, lately, have been good about that, I've noticed. Like when someone new posts and they post the link, but also say something like, "Welcome to the forum. I've also noticed that. It's a good topic, but the subject has already been brought up here: *link*" If I were new to a forum, that'd make me feel so special. :] _________________ my name's carrie and i love a good sandwich so if you have a sandwich, come roll with me! i'm gonna marry the mars volta. |

I don't mind repeat threads. They can take an interesting new angle, or revive the original topic in an old thread that has gone awry. And occasionally, a new thread may be necessary because it doesn't fit into the scope of what the other threads were, or has become. But ultimately, if you want to post a link, it's a good precedent to add a bit of nice text... _________________ Scriptozoology, a screenwriting blog .. Facebook |
