what do you think of working with a bigname producer on the LP? my only advice (which means nothing, but i feel like bangin on about this for a moment) :dont let them turn eisley into anything but eisley. they can be a nightmare...its a crap thing to say, but keep it good. i dont think we gotta worry about y'all but...i've seen alot of good bands with the potential to be great have alot of commercial success, but go NOWHERE musically. eh, i'm probably seeming like a jerk so i'll sod off..but yea...take care, keep kicking all sorts of bum. _________________ knives don't have your back. |

[terribly fake British accent]good solid british name, that is... reminds me of a bloke i knew back in Calcutta :puffs on his pipe: that was back in my younger days when i would go off globetrotting at the drop of a derby hat :blows a smoke ring: Nigel was a terribly good cricket player, he could whack the little round thing out of the court like none other. Right proper British name, Nigel is. Right Proper! [/accent] are we tlaking about radiohead's nigel or some other nigel? |

Funny....when i was 12...I was doing something like...taking a cake decorating class, or still taking the heads off of my barbie dolls. Stacy, (at 12), dreamed of Nigel Godrich producing a record for her someday. I hope it happens. This project would be great! |

i still am 12... i just got trapped in this 18 year old body... its weird... its hairy and smells bad... but it can drive so thats cool... when i was twelve i pretended i was raptor or some other type of dinosaur alot... and i read national geographic... i was/am a geek. |

Radiohead Travis Beck wow. He'd be hard to get. We did submit stuff....like Stacy and Sherri recorded 14 ruff songs on a Realistic cassette recorder...using their girl heads to sing and their Wulitzer to make that vibey, fun machine music. And I slammed a QT movie together of 2 songs captured live from the tour on a CD....but, you know how it goes: I'm sure Nigel has like hundreds of submissions per day. Why would he pick up a suspicious cassette with "to Nigel - Eisley song ideas" (scribbled on the front with a sharpie) - accompanied by a Cd that say's "Eisey Songs/QT Movie". You guys...I say with fear and respect and a head swimming in bad chemistry: Don't worry. The band is now on defcom 4 with this issue of production. It's all they talk about.... Like, we've been having these conference calls with big time producers.. Stacy is the most hardline...well, ALL of them, (seriously...all 5 and I am also a big advocate for them in dealings with A&R and management) but they are running these producers through the mill...asking questions, listening to their words to see if there's a match; to see if they "get it". And we're just starting the process; we'll try out producers and toss what doesn't work. Once in the studio, if they don't like something, they're gonna be very vocal. They learned a lot from the last experience. Eisley WILL get the record they want out of this. (not meant to sound arrogant) - everyone will be happy. My guess - it's gonna blow our minds. I really believe this. But don't expect it to be some lo-fi thing. Think Nigel. Think Eisley songs - the way the band hears them...with instrumentation you may not have ever heard....and if they like it...it'll be moved into their live show. Somebody didn't like the strings on the last project...assuming it was some producers dream. Nope. (Eisley) I will say, however, that they have major issues with the ep recording...and those issues won't be an issue this time around. The ep was an in and out deal...slam it down, someone mixes it...eisley isn't around...bam. ship it... But that's ok. It was a opportunity to get something out there to sell and tour with. Some have the idea that they'll sell out. You don't know them. Others will buy in...or they'll opt out. Their dream isn't to be famous or radio stars. If somebody likes what they're doing....fine. Real artisans mix artistry with appeal. Of couse, art has to have a marketplace. Fine artists that don't connect with people just sit in their room and paint and eat cheetos and wonder why the land lord is knocking on their door. Eisley has the luxury of standing on the shoulders of great artists before them - being confident that there is a market for music in this genre'. Perhaps not a radio market... but, who cares. If records don't sell...and the label isn't happy with the investment, they'll get dropped like every other band who had a moment in the sun. So what? Getting to tour with Coldplay was worth the trip down this road... But they didn't sign up because they wanted to have recognition and fame. I think artists get their biggest thrill from simply creating. When they look at their creation...and it makes them smile, then they say, "it is good". That's it. Who knows what will happen with this band. It's a crazy industry...driven by money and power and greed and sleeze and hype and radio and payola...on and on. It's a bad time to be in the music business. It's a bad time for labels...for artists...that's what people tell us anyway. But Eisley doesn't see it that way. Things aren't so bad... Technology is just shifting the way the business works. There will be casualties. I think if relationships are good - then things work out. Everything is relationship... between the songwriter and the song, the music and listener, the band and their freinds, ...with the label, with management... if it's nurtured and developed and the vision is clear, people can wrap their brains around it... experience it...relate to it. I sound like some guy who just grew horse hooves and am neighing and stomping and trying to tell the Lone Ranger to understand what my needs are as an equine. But, it doesn't really matter. I think fearing failure is lame. Just do what you were put on planet earth to do... be passionate; "realize that life goes fast...it's hard to make the good things last, you realize the sun doesn't go down...it's just an illusion caused by the world spinning round". And anyway, failure is a part of the process...but it can be good. We've experienced a lot of failures...a lot of pain... it gives us a great perspective to have a balance about what's now happening. We were happy before...and we'll be happy after... I know I've walked down a path that we didn't start on...but it's all very connected to what's happening right now. Maybe Eisley will explode. Maybe they'll fizzle...I know they'll keep writing because it's "in" them. The truth? It's just as important to Eisley that their friends' bands make it...even if they fail. Being an indie band is not a curse. It can be a blessing. We're all just celebrating a little blip of creative melody making in time and space; relishing in the feeling we get from listening and talking about it. We're creating a community...we're making freinds. We like the same kind of music. We love people...(I believe), because God loves people. Like I read somewhere....we're sorta like Him. And He created music. And He created Pedro the Lion who is singing really loud in my den by way of recording technology... because Collin put the disk in and turned it WAY so he could be happy while doing the dishes. That pretty well says it all. oh...and, don't worry; eisley will find the right producer.
