when you sing along to songs with different accents, do you sing in YOUR accent, or the songs accent?

most songs would be entirely mucked up if not sung in the proper accent. lily allen would sound crude, beer goggles would sound seriously alcoholic instead ofthe hilariousity it is

I used to try and always emulate the singer, but now I try to sing along with a more classical approach (as gay as that sounds).

I always try to sound as Australian as possible when singing along to The Living End's Prisoner of Society. It's the only way. Cool

If you don't sing in the native accent, the words might flow very well.

I think there is a line that should not be crossed. For example, my sister unfortunately has a liking for these nasally, drawn out sounding singers for crap teenage angst bands and she feels as though she has to sing just like they do and I don't think she realizes how moronic she sounds. But in some cases it's fine. Just my opinion.

I sometimes do the accent thing... most of the time. It's so much fun with Japanese songs that have English lines in them... =)
And Underneath Your Clothes by Shakira, I try and do her really nasal type way of singing... =)

Tape her in secret, and then make her listen to herself. Problem solved.

i always sing with the accent of the singer.

for instance, Joanna Newsom songs must be sung as Joanna Newsom...

Oh... I mostly only sing when I'm alone... cause I know that I sound horrible... even with my own accent... so yeah...

I swear that I sound JUST LIKE HER when I sing Peach, Plum, Pear...but only in the car or shower, and even then, only if I'm the only one around.

A great example is "a thousand miles" by the proclaimers. I don't think you can sing that in any accent BUT the one they sing in.
