I don't know if you're the kind of people who read the lyrics right when they hear a song for the first time. It takes me 15-20 times before I actually look up the lyrics on the booklet or on the internet so I often misunderstand what the singers are actually saying.

For example in Many Funerals I thought the song said
Rain came down!
Instead of Break, Break Down

Taking the chase to curb our fear as the blemished (instead of bloodless) moon cast its face (Invasion)

Oh you and me today instead of
Oh you humour me today (Telescope Eyes)

These are the ones I recall right now.

In Invasion I couldn't tell if it was "Cherished people that I hold" or "Cherished people that I love." I thought love at first, but it's hold. Right?

In the live version of ICBTFY I thought Stacy sang "love is a postcard written to the heart" when it's "love is a false dart driven into your heart"

I first thought they were saying

Break the lady down in the earlier versions of Many Funerals

It'll be impossible to go through all the things I thought the duprees were singing.

one major one I can remember is in Golly Sandra.

I thought she was saying

"Oh you are my star"

but it's

"Oh you are my scar"

when I first realized that it blew my mind.

Do you not like the new ICBTFY? I think because I loved the live version so much, I couldn't not love the new version. They may have dropped the 2nd verse but the Chauntelle singing has to make up for that, right?

I also thought it was my star and Cherished people that I love!

It's NOT star? Ah! Well, I'm still going to sing "star."

yeah. For sure Chauntelle's singing is amazing and am glad she did.

When I hear it now I just think of someone telling them during preproduction/recording, "Something's missing there" or "the chorus is repeated too much [to be played on radio]" (which I know wasn't the case).

I think they had the right the first time around with that song (as far as the structure goes). I remember hearing it for the first time and thinking how pumped I was for Eisley not doing another verse-chorus-verse-chorus-bridge-chorus structred song. It still stands out of the crowd in Combinations, but I still can't look past it for some reason.

The "love is a false dart" line is one of Eisley's best.

I was in the same boat for a while. Then I just listened to the new version enough that it grew on me and I find the Final Noise version under-developed (which, I guess technically, it was). Actually, I kinda look at them as two different songs, and I listen to the album version more than the old version. And besides the slow ones, its still up there as one of my fave new one. Cool I miss that line too at first, but taking it out makes it a more "interpretive" song where it doesn't just have to be about losing a boyfriend or something, it could be about something else/more. I am looking forward to a little LESS structured song thrown in for fun, but I'm over the album changes.

ANYWAYS, yeah I had the same lyrical mistakes with Golly Sandra and Invasion.

I know there is more but the only one I can think of is Sunfeet. Until I looked it up recently, I heard "And then our hands will grow, like flowers" instead of "from our heads will grow bright flowers." (I was thinking it was the same metaphor like in "Just Like We Do"...which I'm assuming is a metaphor). Laughing

Sherri mentioned at a concert that they've had fans think it was "mermaids in swan strawberries"

the Iron and Wine song, "Lion's Mane" that stacy covered...
i always thought it the last line was
"love is the best and ever-waiting in the Lion's Mane."
not "best endeavor"

i like my version way better. Evil or Very Mad
