Well Its not just Eisley but many other bands. How can they write just great songs. Don't know if they all stumbled into some secret or they have something natural that pops into their head or maybe even just try a lot of things until it finally comes together and makes one song and then start the process all over again. What ever it is it sounds great.
Basically I've been playing guitar for a couple of years, recently pickup the keyboards.. not too good at it, just know how to play some coldplay and a little bit of eisley songs I figured out. I've been in cover bands and have fun and all but I want to start writing music. I feel tons of stuff in my head but when I get my instruments out it all goes away. I have tons of lyrics but can't put them into song. I've spent the past 3 weeks in front of my computer (music software/ fruityloops), in front of my keyboard, guitar, bass and could only come up with 2 things I liked. It is a lot of hard work. I've spent soo many hours with one chord one note with my effect pedals (around 30 of them) trying to make music. Maybe the thing about it is, its only been me and not having anyone else give me some input and adding stuff makes it even more difficult. I scratched and threw away somethings I've made cause I thought to myself its not worthy of hearing but maybe someone would have liked it.
Man I sure know how to talk a lot...lol Well just wanted to let some stuff out and see if anyone else has gone through the same thing. Don't know if I posted it in the right place but if its not right someone will move it. Well gtg I hope Eisley is having better luck and writing songs than I am.

Aw, don't be afraid of songs not being "worthy." There's no better way to kill creativity than to shoot yourself down. They play a lot an work hard at it, they have fun with music and I don't think they're afraid of making bad songs. They have a lot of support, and I'm sure some natural ability. But I would bet most of it comes from perseverance, enjoying it and not limiting themselves with negative thoughts. Support from others is great, but support from within is important, too. Don't try to be great or anything, just start somewhere and it'll build up.

Maybe that makes sense ... ha.

Honestly, its the complete other way around for me. I can write music, but I can't write lyrics to save me. Now, I can't play an instrument too well, but I can hammer out some good riffs using music software and stuff like that. I've put together some really neat stuff on midi using an old copy of noteworthy composer...but when I try to write lyrics, it just doesn't click. I just can't. They always turn out really really cheesy or just completely terrible. My point is that maybe you'd be able to write something a little better if you had another person sharing writing duties. Maybe if you can't find somewhere to begin, and someone helps with an awesome bass line or a great guitar riff you'll become inspired and start popping out hits. My buddy writes some awesome lyrics and he's pretty good at coming up with stuff on guitar, but for the most part, he gets a lot of input from the rest of his band about bass lines, drum fills, and the rest since he's not as experienced in the other instruments. Good luck buddy.

I feel your pain. I've been playing guitar for 6 years and I probably only have about 2 full songs straight through from beginning to end. I have no one to collaborate with and I actually hate learning songs from other people/bands (its too frustrating) so that probably doesnt help. Either way finding someone else to jam with is key. Everytime I try to get a band together everyone bails. Time will tell if I ever get a band going and play shows for once : /

You can't expect to write good songs right away. It takes tons of time and practice. What I say is you shouldn't throw away what you write. Keep everything, because maybe tomorrow you may like it, or maybe you'll figure out a way to make it work. And if not, well, keep on working on something else. It really does take a long time until you write good songs. Practice does help. You'll only keep getting better at it, so don't limit yourself by saying that what you write is no good.

I've pretty much been writing since forever... lyrics since I can remember, music since I first picked up a guitar, which was 5 years ago, when I was 12. And while I still have a long way to go, there's a very big difference in what I used to write before and what I write now. At first, I would write the songs and later just leave them there because I didn't like them. Now I can actually keep on practicing them and all, because I like them more. So really, just keep your mind open, don't limit yourself and keep on writing because it will get better. There's really no magic formula. Sure you need some talent. But unless you're Mozart, you'll need tons of practice, too Smile

And sorry for making it so long hehe.

Agreed. lol Very Happy

It's very hard to right good music, it's not like playing where it's just a matter of learning something form someone else. But I bet it helps if you collaborate with different people and then you'd get the hang of it and could probably do some of you own stuff from your experience. Don't try to right a GREAT song though, you'll fail and never be happy with it your first time out, just right a..song. Worry about perfection like the might eisleys later..they wrote LOTS of songs before they released a thing, and I bet they write 10-20 for everyone they release.

Just focus on the emotion you are trying to convey and don't second guess yourself. If the emotion is pure and coming from a place of truth the listener will be able to relate and believe in you...and you can get away with allot of lyrics that would sound cheesy if they were not sung sincerely.

Don't let the fear of failure keep you from trying at all.

I LIKE KNOBS, FADERS

I think there are two key elements to good songwriting. 1. Write all the time, and spend time evaluating your songs and figure out what is good about them and what isn't. 2. Listen to good music. All the time. Do spend time thinking about the songs you like. But primarily, learn how to like them more and more. Become proficient at enjoying music.

one time the DuPree family was traveling and Boyd took a wrong turn.

they got further and further away from civilization.

there were open fields in every direction......yet Boyd went on.

after some time the vehicle broke down.......at a crossroads no less.

amongst the endless fields was one solitary tree.

upon closer inspection they saw a shady character in trenchcoat and hat.

with no other options, they approached the figure.
oddly enough, he seemed to have all the answers,
and even solutions.
he could get their vehicle going......and in an odd turn of events, could give the family musical talents beyond their wildest dreams.

all this in exchange FOR THEIR SOULS!!!!!!!

since this seemed absurd, they agreed...

muhahahahahahahahaaaaa

you can tell i'm bored on friday night...
