my guess is they'll shut them down within 2-3 months. I seem to remeber them having some sort of issues with zanga (sp?) when that was all the rage with you American kids. Didn't someone threaten to kill themselves or something cos Stacy didn't 'add' them. Or would I be completely making all that up?

Yeah, people trash talked them on Xanga, but I think the climate is a bit different on Facebook. It's not quite as wide open as Xanga was. Hopefully the abuse thing will not come back around, as that was really lame.

I don't even think the trash talking thing would fly over at all now, if people still used Xanga very much. Anyone with a Xanga could comment on those blogs. Now they have to find them on facebook, add them and then comment. Not much more effort, but I think it might be enough to prevent some abuse.

P.S. Not sure about the suicide threat, though. I never read all of the comments on their Xangas. I just know some people got really lame.

...Wow, that's a real shame that people stoop so low. I feel that this may be different however, because they've invited the fans to add them. I'm not sure, but the impression that I got with the Xanga site was that it was to remain private.

I'm tempted to see what happens if I try to set my relationship status as married to Sherri...

i've had one for two or more years, it's just a perk now that they're getting 'em.

I put off getting a facebook for a while, and then I finally found my nearly useless (even when I went to college) college e-mail address and got in. Then they lifted that restriction quickly. ha. I still didn't do much on Facebook until probably about a year ago.

Anyway, I'll just skip a lot of rambling and say that fads can be annoying, but if there's something to do, dive on in and avoid silly things. It's just a web site in the end.

I really hated that they totally deleted their Xangas.
Think how many witty, great posts are gone forever.
They probably posted first drafts of songs and posted them on there and no telling what else.
Basically they threw away a couple years worth of journals.

In the end, they could have set every post so that there could be no comments - make it more or less like the Journal section on this website.

If I get to the point where I totally want nothing to do with Xanga, I never plan to delete it. I'm sure at some point down the road I may feel nostalgic and want to revisit this period of my life.

I'm the same way, I'm such a packrat. I had the first blog I really embraced years after I quit using it, and finally let it go only because I had archived the best of it. They need a "print all" for Xanga. Laughing
