He's got links to 4 reviews on http://www.PAxamrecords.com THey're all glowing, one's from WSJ and a link to it on itunes where there are 35 reviews and an average of 4*s

The downloads are demos, some from other albums, like Natural Ghost from Cardinology for example. I'll get on my laptop and get the track info and post when I get a chance.

Oh yeah, it's only 13.99 on there with 1 bonus track, 11.oo download on Amazon (13.98 cd) I'm listening to the snippets for kicks, and it's good, sounds like the album designed around Starting To Hurt, Halloween Head, Fix It & Crossed Out Name it's well balanced and not as extreme or coy as Rock-N-Roll.

Oh, Itunes has :90 clips, and 12 of the songs are shorter than 3:45 so you get a real good impression of the tracks. That said, it's a really enjoyable, high energy Ryan Adams record, basically, the Cardinals being a rock band with Ryan Adams fronting instead of being his Jam/ Alt-Country backing band. Not quite Keith Urban, but non-twangy road rock.

I streamed most of the first disc the other day on PaxAm.
It didn't suck by any measure, but then it didn't blow me away either - not like he is capable of doing anyway. I have a feeling it would probably be like Cardinology, just one I don't really ever feel like listening much to.

Have you been able to use the 123666 code that he mentioned in the e-mail? I can't get through even tonight.

I went to Hasting's for the first time in a little while. They actually have III/IV both on CD and vinyl. I think the CD was $14/$15.99.

Were you able to get whatever that code I mentioned above gets you?

I remember going to the download, but I guess I never bothered to listen to them, which is two version of a song called So Lost and an apology letter about vinyl delays and people not being able to find their download cards. I don't know if you couldn't do the song download, or get the code part to work, but that's what it is. It's a mellow song, with the Love Is Hell vibe, sounds like something the Doves might do actually, and he sings in a lower register, which furthers that vibe. One version is a demo where it sounds like it's live at a soundcheck, it's the NYC sessions version, and his voice is a little more up in that one. The other is studio.

I get updates at the Via Chicago board (a Wilco board). He recently answered a lot of people on Twitter and said he has a Glyn Johns produced album done, and another in addition to Blackhole.

Nice, I'm wondering if Dear Impossible will ever see the light of day. Those demos were great stuff. Meanwhile, listening to Nutshell, one of my all-time "Man I am So Depressed Right About Now" songs. They did a great version of it with the slow build, but it's hard not to hear Lanye Staley all over that one. Also, hearing him sing it just makes me think he's strung out on smack, which I hope he isn't, but that's the thought process I go through listening to the first two tracks off Jar of Flies, junkie hell.

Kinda odd that he'd work with Glynn (Ethan Johns dad). Ethan worked on Heartbreaker, his crowning achievement thus far, but his dad worked on Zeppelin records, so there's that mystique to consider I guess?

I only knew of Ethan from his work on Chris Stills first record, and later on Ours 2nd record. Both are really good, and he apparently has a think for working with people who have that Jeff Buckley vibe to their voice as far as men go. Not a bad thing, but not something I heard in Ryan Adams until Love Is Hell & a few songs on RockNRoll. Truth be told Chris Stills sounding more like his dad than anyone else (Stephen) and Ryan Adams can sing like just about any male alternative rock frontman well, from a Cobain-like hoarse scream to a falsetto whisper, which was the thing about RockNRoll that I was the most intrigued by, it was like a vocal & guitar tutorial on the last 20 years of rock up to that point. Prior to that, there were only a couple of Whiskeytown songs I liked, none more that Turn Around.

Oh, the first song, Empty Room sounds just like a Chris Isaak song as far as instrumentation and arrangement, a good dark Chris Isaak song, but a Chris Isaak song nonetheless. Have you ever listened to any of his records? Me and Boone had a discussion about him on some thread back in the day, can't remember if you got in on that one or not?

Did you add more to that post later?

I only remembered the first paragraph.

I don't know any Chris Isaac other than his most popular 2 songs probably.

That's the thread so you can bookmark it, or sign up to get notifications.

Thanks for the link, and yeah, with music info threads up here, I always get a hankering to add more info after the fact. And Chris Isaak's albums have some deep cuts on em' seriously slept on, and ahead of the trends. I think his vocals and image were too much for some people though.
