The past couple of days in town many people have looked at my mellaroid hoodie really puzzled about it. maybe it's cause the hoodie kinda screams "cool happy and arty" whilst the rest of the look is a bit more regular skater, and the two don't really "mix"

but i did enjoy the conversation it sparked last night with the pal with whom I'm seeing Take That:

"is that eyes-lee..."
"yep"
"what are they?"
"a super cool band"
"are they more super than Take That?"
"well, they're on a different scale..."
"you mean that Take That are WAY UP HERE [puts hand above head] and they're like, way down here [puts other hand as low as it can go easily]?"

How do you respond to that one? Confused

explain to him that he just showed you two places on the same scale, a high one and a low one, and that you said a "on a different scale".

Demonstrate this by showing a place on the left with one hand, a place on the same scale to the right with your other, very slowly...

as his eyes track your right hand, slap him silly with your left! Twisted Evil

Lay off Duncan...

Let's see, he's done three albums dedicated to Off Broadway shows, one became a Broadway hit, and national tour (Spring Awakening) that got him a Tony, and a movie deal.

The other two, Phantom Moon, was a nod to Nick Drake, and Whisper House has an animated component that actually looks like something Sherri would draw. It came out just his year, and is very good. Stephen Sater wrote the lyrics to the prior, Duncan penned the lyrics to the latter.

His song writing is more literate and his pop sensibilities are a lot more sophisticated these days, and not to knock Barely Breathing, but he has moved far beyond that in the years.

Meanwhile, he put out two non theatrical albums, Daylight, and White Limosine which came with a bonus cd of all the tracks and a program that let people remix, which he then posted on his site.

He also grew a beard.
Get caught up, you might find yourself pleased.

oh, and if you can track down Another Gone from 2002, his tribute to Elliott Smith is one of the most moving pieces of that sort in this generation.

Duncan Rules!

Sorry, didn't mean to derail this funny thread by insulting Duncan Sheik. Duncan Sheik does seem to be truly super these days, so never mind; he was just the first person who came to mind when I was thinking, "Who else was on the radio in 1995."

But the superness of Take That is still in question. I mean, why is Eisley getting compared to Take That rather than to New Kids on the Block, or maybe Color Me Badd?

UPDATE: I know, Donna Lewis!

Laughing

that post was mostly in jest Laughing *hint "he also grew a beard."
but I am a fan of his, but one with a big sense of humor about it.
I played some of his stuff for my drummer friend, who has equally dainty and macho tastes, and he said, " It's like Better Than Ezra (who he really likes) without the B@||$..."

Did I laugh??? yup... cause, he had a point, but he also likes Belle and Sebastian, so his insult was neutered. (I know, I know... so shoot me why don't ya?) *knock on wood*

As far as 95', that was before Duncan came out big, 95' was the year of Cranberries, Elastica, Foo Fighters, Everclear, Oasis, Bush, Silverchair, Jewel, Hootie and No Doubt...

I miss that 90's rock thread... Next time we need to add a poll! Crying or Very sad

My friend was convinced Eisley was pronounced "ease-lee" for the longest time, even though I tried to tell her she was saying it wrong. She responded with "well, have you ever heard the BAND say it?". Laughing

Now if you could dig up a clip of when a couple of the other Postal Carriers come into Cheers and start talking about Cliff and mention how whenever they want to call someone an A-Hole they just call em' a Clavin, that was hilarious, and keeps me humble...

Although... I have to admit, as much as I hate it, I think I would have came up with the same answer for final jeopardy as him!
