Yes I am late. Room Noises came out on Feb 8th 2005.

So...8 years later how does it hold up?

This was a strange album for us, at the time, longer time fans.
There were not a ton of suprises as most of the songs had been heard before.

There were cries of excitment thinking Eisley would finally become famous
There were cires of pain thinking Eisley would finally become famous

I dont have time to type a whole lot so I will post some disjointed thoughts.

Memories and I wasn't prepared are still great. Although I Wasn't seems more simplistic than it used to.

For some reason when my cd goes to Marvelous Things, the volume drops a bit.

Just like we do is still an amazing song. Bravo Stacy. I think it's an under rated track.
Golly Sandra is still a great song to sing to. Notice the girls dont sing over each other anymore like they used to back in these days.

Thankfully they never put the Lost at sea remix on here, but the version on the cd is not that good either.
My favorite has always been Sherri's rough demo. And while I understand why they can't put that on cd, it's still more powerful than the official version.

Lost at Sea was always my least favorite on the album too. But it's on almost every Eisley mix I make because, if you put it directly after the studio version of They All Surrounded Me that was on one of the iTunes EPs (I forget which one) it's the most perfect thing ever.

Personally, I think most of, if not all, the songs that had been released before Room Noises were better in their earlier versions. I don't know how much of that was the band's choice or executive meddling.

Don't get me wrong, it's still a great album. It's what got me into the band in the first place. I just liked the pre-album stuff better, and once Combinations came along, I preferred that over Room Noises.

Come to think of it, I can't remember the last time I listened to it from start to finish. Typically, when I listen to Eisley, I usually either listen to a mix I've made, put on The Valley, or, most likely, put the entire catalog on shuffle.

I can remember back when there was talk of it being a dou ble album before release or at least having a very rapid follow-up release.

I think the toughest thing for me to swallow was the more upbeat tone of the material given the tension of the emotions on the EPs. I remember Trolleywood discussing them going out to see Rilo Kiley, and when I think of some of the more "retro" sounding tunes on Room Noises I can hear Jenny Lewis singing them in my head.

Compared to what I was expecting, the album felt like a throwback to 70s siinger songwriter stuff that mixed country, chamber-folk, and a little psychedelia. It was a curveball & I had a hard time getting it. I eventually came around. I think it might not have been as strong a record, but releasing an album with no ep songs could have been interesting, or a 2cd with rerecorded ep tracks on one, brand new material on the other.

i didn't get into eisley till combinations came out, but i looked through the journal entries and saw they they had initially planned on saving songs like lady of the wood for LP2. goes to show the best laid plans don't always go through.

i heard room noises before combinations, but i hated it. the thing was though, i couldn't stop listening to it either. i couldn't get past some of the arrangements or what the songs were about, but the vocals and harmonies were so well done and perfect. then, on a whim i decided to add them on myspace and invasion played and i loved it. next many funerals and i loved it too. next day i bought combinations and i was sold on eisley. about a few months later, i got into room noises and a year after that i liked room noises more than combinations.
