Been talking about it elsewhere. It's a solid tune. Feels more like an album cut, but I get the feeling this is a slow burn and they will put out something more uptempo (relative to this at least) in the coming months. Maybe the other track their playing on tour will be released in a month or so after the tour wraps? _________________ yup, that's my name. It kinda feels/sounds like latter day Death Cab to me. Mid tempo rock with electronic elements. I have only listened once on my phone, so that does not give me a very good idea of what it really sounds like sonically _________________ I am Torgo. I take care of the place while the Master is away. |

I listened on the phone and then grabbed my ear buds. The Bass Line is very prominent and carries the majority of the melody apart from the vocals, so the phone unless it really does a good job with bass, is not going to do the song's arrangement justice. I am totally on board with the DCFC comparison, as well as Copeland (both of which I would compare to Jimmy Eat World circa Clarity). The actual structure is interesting too. The intro verse guitar and bass aren't repeated again in the song, the second verse uses a different bass line and vocal melody, which comes back for the third, but is altered before becoming an outro/vamp at the end using the chorus's lyrics sung to fit the augmented second verse. The only parts that are close to identical structurally are the first and second chorus. That actually helps since the song is down tempo, which might make it harder for some people to get into. By being full of so many dynamic changes in such a brief span, it's easy to get something out of repeat listening. _________________ yup, that's my name. Just heard about this today. Nice to hear something new, even though there's been a significant adjustment as far as the line up. Also, when you go to eisley.com, there's no way to click around to get here. Just links to Facebook, instgram, and twitter. So, I guess Laughing City is going further underground. _________________ https://soundcloud.com/kiteswithoutstrings/tracks |

It's been a while now that the "Journals" link goes nowhere (all those hilarious Boyd posts . . . just disappeared). Wonder how long "Laughing City" itself will be around. _________________ Classical guitar cover of "Combinations": http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gkIpDhvbd2o |

I don't like the production, TBH. Sounds like it was done on GB with the minimal of guitar work that I'd come to know Eisley for. I think Chauntelle is going to turn out to be a huge loss. :/ The other one someone posted a live clip of sounds promising though - we'll see how the produced version sounds! _________________ Albert Camus wrote: Always go too far, because that's where you'll find the truth. |

Defeatist sounded better live, but I think the biggest hurdle for getting into that song is how brief the intro and first verse are. It doesn't give you a chance to get into the song before the chorus hits. That particular groove never really comes back either. It's creative, but if you don't really get into the chorus of the song, the other aspects are unconventional and might leave some people cold. The bass lines really carry the song, but they best parts of that don't kick in until verse two where Garron gets to really groove. Listening to it from the bit of video I got, two things stand out. The guitar during that intro are playing the same melody that Sherri sings which makes them less prominent. The melody of the chorus sounds very much like something Christie might write. https://www.instagram.com/p/BKmf6AijICE/?taken-by=isthiswill _________________ yup, that's my name.
