so, if i want to use "Telecope Eyes", the Laughing City version, for the opening credits of this movie i'm making, what kind of legal issues will spring up? Do i have to pay Eisley royalties? Or do i just have to cite the band in the credits? _________________ welcome to the no pants club boone |

ehem... I´ll take care of that you have to pay a little fee so, you can give the U$S 100000 to me and I´ll make sure the band gets it _________________

in general you have to contact two folks: 1) whoever owns the rights to the "mechanical recording" of the song (a.k.a. master tapes)...in this case talking to the record label is a good place to start. the ownership of the master tapes could be in anyone's hands by now. 2) whoever manages the rights to the song itself (ASCAP or BMI) both ASCAP and BMI have websites designed specifically for searching for that info. if you just want to record your own cover version you only have to do step 2. anyway, that's just .02 from a non-music-lawyer. |
