...that i went to go see brand new at the 9:30 club in dc. opening up were hot rod circuit, who i was also into, and some band called eisley that i never heard of before. so, we didn't buy tickets in advance in order to avoid paying the ridiculous service charges. that was a mistake- the show sold out a day beforehand. ouch. being the brand new fans we were though, my friend bob and i went anyway and planned on trying to get tickets from someone selling extras. unfortunately, there were about 50 people with the same idea so tickets were quite scarce. after a few ideas that didn't quite pan out (such as trying to bribe brand new's roadies) we finally got tickets but by that time that eisley band was already most of the way through their set. so, we hurried in and in our rush to get a spot somewhere decently close to the stage, i almost bowled over some dude with glasses and a goatee who was taping the band (hmmm...wonder who that was?) finally, after all this, i got a chance to actually listen to this band and...wow. even now, a year later, i still can't think of an adequate descriptor other than "holy crap this band is amazing!" unfortunately, i only ended up seeing about 2 and a half songs, but it was still phenomenal. in fact, i had trouble paying attention to hot rod because i was still in awe of what i had just seen. i didn't have a chance to get any of the eps or anything since i had to hurry to catch the last metro back after brand new's set was over, but i bought the laughing city ep off amazon and ended up picking up the marvelous things ep the day it came out in stores. the first time i listened to that, i immediately recognized "memories" as the song that eisley was playing when i first walked in - it had stuck in my head for that long, even though i had only heard about half of it a month earlier. it was about this time that i started lurking on this forum, but i never got around to actually joining until 7 months later. go figure. so anyway, that's my long-winded, poorly-written, stream-of-consciousness rant about why eisley is one of my favorite bands. the end. |
