I hate Valentine's Day with the level of derision and utter antagonism I usually reserve for Christmas. Too many sham holidays fill up our year, and people don't even get Valentine's Day off from work. Rolling Eyes

You don't get off school/work and then you have to see all the couples being all romantic and have girls show off stuff their boyfriend got them...

You think that's incidental? It's a conspiracy. When singles feel like crap because they're alone, they're more likely to fling themselves on the next person that walks by, so next Valentines' Day the guy will have to buy all this stuff so his girl doesn't look like a fool.

Well, I'm single, always been single, and I really like Valentine's Day. First off, it's an excuse to big out and eat candy and make cookies. Second, to me, love doesn't necessarily mean romance. To me, it's a bond between friends and family, etc (not to sound corny), and it's also just simply a love for something-- in my case a love for God and a love for art and a love for music. So really, love is my life, and I love love, so I welcome a chance to celebrate it. *leaps off soapbox*
But that's just me. >_>

Valentines Day is about romantic love. It's only dumbed down for elementary kids, so the companies can make money off of children. Evil or Very Mad

Media makes it about romantic love. And after years of early-teen-romance-frustration I decided that I would like it much better if it wasn't like that in my own mind. So in my own mind, it isn't. And I like it.

That's a good philosophy to have. It's nice that you personally choose to celebrate it differently.

It just occurred to me that whatever present my boyfriend got me for my birthday will probably arrive around Valentine's Day, so I will be getting something from him after all. Laughing

the real enemies are couples who are all over each other while their sigle friend stands awkwardly nearby.
