If it weren't for Elvis and the beatles none of those other bands would exist so picking anyone else is kind of ignorant in a sense.

wow i completely disagree with smirfy sheebs. the rolling stones wouldn't exist unless the beatles and elvis came first? then there are plenty of other acts listed that are completely different; led zeppelin, bob dylan (without whom trippy beatles music might not exist), pink floyd are completely separate styles of music. i'd say led zeppelin sounds more inspired by rolling stones than the beatles. the only band that all of the members of radiohead can say that they like and are inspired by is the smiths. furthermore, claiming that a band inspired many others is kind of a moot point, since there are a lot of bands inspired by the 60's pop and country like the byrds, big star, buffalo springfield, and the flying burrito brothers.

but then the thread is all based on personal opinion since there is nothing that defines qualities of a "good band" which a band can have more of to be the best. nevermind the fact that bob dylan and elvis pressley aren't bands, and none of the list includes country, rap, or techno acts. there are many people whose favorite bands are those of these and other styles.

sorry.

I was just talking about how no matter who really influenced those bands, because of the break through in rock music that Elvis and the Beatles made, it opened the doors for many other bands to become popular and in some cases even discover rock music in the first place. I mean, if the beatles and elvis had never existed do you really think that the other classic rock musicians would have come along? A lot of the subgenres of rock and roll came around because of the influence that the beatles and elvis had on the music industry and that time period in general.

not to put a damper on things, but what about the old blues guitar players that , if you want to get technical, influenced elvis, and the beatles. they might be the true pioneers of rock and roll.

I agree completely. But they're not on the list.

while they may have influenced the beatles, they did not write the beatles music for them. they are not the beatles, and therefore not the greatest band ever, as the beatles are.

It's hard to call it...but, it's important to be true...to be honest with ourselves...to remove the dust, remove the layers, to push aside, for a moment, those who stood on the shoulders of the greatest band of all time...I speak of none other than the Beatles. Yes, the Radiohead button tempted me...Led Zepplin challenged me....but I stood for truth.
