The video for "Closer" is pretty much "Fake Plastic Trees." But it has BEN STILLER. http://stream.qtv.apple.com/qtv/video_c/http/trav005/trav005_http_300_ ref.mov

Travis would be vastly improved if they resurrected Elvis to supply the vocals.

I heard the new song on the radio today. I liked it. But I don't know if I'll buy the cd...

Got the new Travis.
The first 4 tracks are more rock-y, 90's esque pop tunes - almost makes me think of Radiohead circa My Iron Lung EP.
Next third or so of the record is your normal Travis pop with one kinda weird Fran song - the usual song I guess Fran has on there so they can't say he only does love songs.
Last third - I think I may end up thinking is pretty weak.
They usually always have a pretty good amount of b-sides and I'm thinking they surely have some better songs than these.

I've only listened a few times, so this is just early ramblin'.

well... this isn't fair. I like Travis too much to be forced to pick 1 record. They are definitely thrown in as a "Wussy" band because there's a sentimental vibe to their songs, wistful and all that.

For Coldplay haters, Keane and Starsailor detractors, you can blame Travis, according to Chris Martin

http://www.starpulse.com/news/index.php/2007/01/21/chris_martin_travis _invented_coldplay

I like the aforementioned (sans Starsailor) so, I think it's a credit to them, imitation is the sincerest for of flattery after all.

I voted for the Invisible band for Side and Love Will Come through, but Happy to Hang Around gets my goat everytime. And of course the bonus track on the Man Who - Blue Flashing Light is a heart breaker.

Good Feeling is fun in places and very dated in others. It's much much more upbeat and the music is more in step with the whit of the videos than their music has been in the 11 years since its release.

On Chris Mar

oh yeah - you can buy (or at least could preorder) Ode to J Smith through Newbury Comics online and get it autographed by the band.

http://www.newburycomics.com/rel/v2_home.php?storenr=103&deptnr=124

(in alphabetical order)

if from what i've seen in the past is any indication - they'll tack on an extra $5 the week after it comes out. i was wanting to make a big order with some other autographs - Jenny Lewis, etc - but i waited too long and they jacked the price up.

dang, i just noticed Byrne/Eno autographed by Byrne... Shocked

.

Some of us have already talked about Fran's solo record, Wreckorder, but I figured I would post here for those that don't do the Album thread.

Nice vid of Anyone live:

Sing Me to Sleep live:

http://www.spin.com/articles/watch-fran-healy-plays-song-solo-debut

Sing Me to Sleep is kinda unique as the chorus doesn't come until 1:45 on the album version I think.

WHOA FRAN, way to look freakin' gorgeous!

The "Buttercups" video is online now. It's adorable.

Also, I love when his voice cracks in that performance of "Sing Me to Sleep". Embarassed

Glen and Fran would be the winningest combination ever. We all know Glen pairs well with a softer vocalist Laughing
I've been mad at him lately, in the silly way you get "mad" at musicians, because he sort of jumped the Swell Season ship...
BUT it means Mar doing a solo EP this winter! Smile

Anyway, yes, Fran. Maybe we have 5 fans here. That would be something!

I listened to the album today, and it is lovely and charming. And I fully concur that a Healy/Hansard collaboration would be transcendant. I think Fran's lung capacity is almost as voluminous as Glen's when he really gets going--I want to hear them both wail at once. Very Happy

2nd song, 1st single for new album, Where You Stand, out Aug 19, 2013.

www.youtube.com/user/TravisVEVO

This one feels really adult contemporary after one listen.
