Im gonna stay outta this one. I love EVERYONE!!

Every single band that has been named (except the sarcasm font one) in this thread I have at least one cd of....

Call me a dork. Cry about it. I just like more stuff than you and you're jealous. Why dont you guys all just stop talking about music and read books. Yea, thats what I said. If a book says "And the music began playing.." You can imagine your own music... Hmm. I think I'm on to something there... or not... oh well. I'm still better than all of you hata's.

Always gotta be hata's. Dawgs you is wack. Shut yo mouths crackas.

**Disclaimer: Yes I do own all those band's cds, but dont take anything else I said up there seriously..... Laughing

no. what rules is the milk carton fromt he blur video. that rules. i bet that that milk carton can write more inspired songs than ANY of the aforementioned bands.... with his littly dairy hands tied behind his nutritional facts label.

"Bright Eyes" is great, I highly suggest seeing them live before passing judgement. One of the best lyricist to come along in awhile. Yes, he may sound whiney. Can the guy help it if he has a shakey voice? Keep in mind people call Thom Yorke and John Lennon whiney too, which I find pretty funny. "Dashboard Confessional" ,(I realize he's cute and all), came way way way after "Bright Eyes" as well as "further seems forever", and to tell you the truth "Jeremy Enigk" and "sunny day real estate" came before all of them. So let's just bust out "Return of the Frog Queen" and never put it away. Anyway, "Bright Eyes" early records are very much like the two Neutral Milk Hotel albums, they have a school band playing in the basement kind of feel, and he writes really good lyrics. Even on his first official record when he was sixteen he blew anyone trying to "sound" emotional out of the water. Also I agree that a lot of attention is placed on Conor, but the band is tight. They alternate instruments every song, and they play all kinds of them for a nice layered yet simple sound. But, whatever you like is up to you, it just seems like if you are on the Eisley website it should be right up your alley.

the bright eyes > neutral milk hotel comparison makes my stomach turn. literally. and comparing him to lennon or yorke doesn't do much better. he's good. he's not THAT good. there is a difference between whiney and shaky. lennon may have been shaky, but he didn't whine. he didn't sing about whiney stuff, you know? at least... not USUALLY... EVERY SONG. and i think whiney is a schtick these days, and people who do it are doing so to capitalize on it. jeff mangum doesn't whine. make no mistake please. there is nothing whiney about jeff. just because you don't sing pretty doesn't mean it's whining.

Well, the first/biggest difference between Bright Eyes and Dashboard is:
Dashboard is clearly emo, while Bright Eyes is not. True, Letting off the happiness and Fever and Mirrors sounds a bit emoish at times, but it's no where close to be as whiny as Dashboard gets. Lifted is a much more mature sounding album and doesn't whine at all. Yes Conor Oberst had a "goat voice", that shivering voice that gets on my nerves sometimes, but I generally enjoy most things he put out. Plus he consistently work with good musicians from Cursive, Now it's Overhead and stuff like that. Finally, Conor is superb lyricist. Sure, some of lyrics may not be clear and highly symbolic, but isn't that what music is supposed to be?

Bright Eyes rules. I love everything I've heard. I only have one album but I hear them on the radio and Kazaa quite a bit. Their newest song One Foot In Front Of The Other is my favorite right now.

You forgot to mention The Lyndsay Diaries, when that guy played with Starflyer 59 and Ester Drang I thought I was going to fall asleep. Every song was the same, not to mention that acoustic shows in a decent size venue are never too exciting.

He's a lot closer to Dashboard than Bright Eyes, but I'm not exactly a huge Bright Eyes fan myself. Rolling Eyes

I am going to have to agree with letdown that conner doesnt really compare to jeff mangum. They don't really do the same thing. Conner definately seems to lean more "emo" with his lyrics even though the music really is outside the box of the genre. I do like bright eyes though, but I think nmh is better.
