I guess I'll finally comment now Rolling Eyes

These have all been great comments and observations. I hope no one has been offended.

Here is "the mom's" take on the original question which was,
how much blah blah blah is because a) young b) sibling

I don't really know if there is a real way to know the answer to this.
EISLEY has a machine behind them. Our whole family is very musical, and we have worked all of their little lives, at music.
NEVER INTENDING, EXPECTING, OR PLANNING ON them being in the mainstream, or any other market, but just supporting the gifts we saw in them.

Our goal as parents, raising these kid's, (the DuPree part), has always been to encourage them to find the "gift" that was given to them.
Whatever that may be. For Chauntelle, Sherri, Weston, Stacy, (and their 9 year old brother Collin), that gift is music. For Christie, it is art.

Our philosophy that we have crammed down their throat on "their gifts", is that, "these things in you are gifts...given to you from above.","You've done nothing special to deserve them", "It is your unique thing that God has planted in you", "It is your responsibility to nurture, cultivate, and handle these things in you, as a precious gift."
We have always told them that, if they did this faithfully, these gifts would grow.
We have also always told them that, the gifts in them would then be something they would always have to enjoy, and that no matter how these gifts were used, whether in private, or in public, they needed to be thankful to the Giver.

We don't see the opportunities that they have had, and are having as "luck", as someone stated, but more like, just something God put together in our unique family that started 24 years ago when Boyd and I met, through our church youth group, and we were drawn to each other through our music abilities. (Boyd a cute drummer with long shoulder length blonde hair, John Lennon glasses, skinny as a rail like Weston, and me a vocalist).

EISLEY has been fortunate to have a "machine" behind them for the growing years, that: (A) ran a coffee house that gave them opportunities to open up for bands, and work their butts off to see what "the band life really takes". (B) to be on the worship team at our church, that gave them opportunity to grow musically, (C) to have a dad that is an award winning graphic designer, and understands marketing, and is able to do all their web, and merch design for free (D) to have played shows, sometimes three times a week, since 1998, and (E) to have great songs coming out of them.

I don't believe that what is happening to them has been by "accident", "luck", or just because they are cute, siblings, girls with guitars, etc.,

I just believe this has been their fate.

We see bands all the time that are just as deserving, and possibly more deserving, of the opportunity to further their musicical dreams. We do what we can to help those bands, if it is in our ability to do so.
There has been a long series of events that ended up putting EISLEY in front of the right people that decided to invest in their musical future.

We as a family, (and EISLEY), are very thankful for the opportunities that have come thier way, and most of all, that people out their genuinely, like thier music and keep supporting them at shows.

As the 4/5ths mom, I don't think anything is more of a blessing to me, than when I'm at a show, and I see a new EISLEY convert!
You see it on their face. Their looking up at the stage thinking, "what's this?...little girls on stage with guitars...oh, brother!"
Then, as the music begins, their mouth drops open, and their jaw stays on the floor through the whole set, while the beer in their hand gets warm, and they start jabbing their friend in the side to take a look also:wink:
Then, they rush over to the table to get a cd, and start asking all kinds of questions about them.

People that don't know their history, are going to think what ever they want. Some will feel like it's because of the sibling, girls with guitars, luck, whatever. Their will always be people that feel like they don't deserve what is happening and that just comes with the territory.

But, when you have people like Chris Martin, Sheryl Crow, Wayne (Flaming Lips), Gwyneth Paltrow, Rick Ruben, and others telling them that they are "writing songs way beyond their years", you lay your head on your pillow at the end of the day and say, "thank you" to the Man upstairs, and ask Him to "continue to pour out creativity on these kid's He's created."

THAT'S THE 4/5THS mom to the band's "take" on how much of their success depends on.......(fill in the blank) Smile

of course this is true; god is using your children and friend, but it is kind of taking the conversation outside of the terms it's being presented. i may be wrong, but it seems like the question was trying to differentiate what interests the people that discover eisley more between their musical talents and their qualities unrelated to music (age, family involvement, etc.).

'luck' is a word that obviously has different meanings within the christian context, but altogether it means that they are fortunate beyond similar acts and that there is an unseen force working in their favor. i frequent the eisley message board so of course i am quite a fan of their music, so i did not mean anything against them when i said that there are other things at work besides their music. kylerossp said that other unsigned bands may need to work on their songwriting skills so that they can get signed, but unfortunately it is not that easy.

and, of course, i am in full agreement with this:

i do not try to offend, and i'm just contributing my thoughts to the discussion.

I have not doubt that the fact that they are young, girls on the front row, mostly family, etc. is a big part of what has drawn, or stirred many peoples interest in the band.

We are all just truly thankful that people are liking their music, and again I say, we know many friends, and bands that deserve the breaks that Eisley is getting.

This surely is not the first time that someone has wondered these very things about EISLEY.

It's all good Wink

Well written Kim. I must say...that made me crack up thinking about you and Boyd meeting for the first time...ha ha ha. I love it! I wish I could see pictures of yall back then! All of this spells "G.O.D.". How else could you say it? Everything/Everybody comes together here to make it a band that can go the distance and be the band of a lifetime. When you lost Taylor I thought..."How can you get a good bassplayer that fits like he did?" Then Jon came and it was PERFECT!. I have just seen the recent surface things and they boggle my mind...every part is perfect....but hey...they say God is the only perfect part of anyone/anything.

We should say thanks to Kim for giving us insight into inner goings-on of the band and family, ....and to Boyd for his work too.....and to the band members themselves, who often post here with their comments or answers to our questions.... comments from these people are what make this Forum fun and interesting. This place would be quite boring without them!

I'm a little late in the discussion but the first time I heard of Eisley was in a Dallas Observer article. I read it over lunch one day at work and the story of the whole family really interested me. Escaping the *big city* and setting up shop in Tyler, the indie scene developing around.. a coffee shop if i remember correctly. The overall wholesomeness of the story got me interested. Then I heard them. I think telescope eyes was the first song I heard ( the ep version not the radio version ). I listen to a lot of NOFX and older Blink182 plus older Marilyn Manson so I'm not exactly a fan of their type of music but it blew me away. I picked up the Laughing City album then EP2 at the last Tree's show. So I guess the band convinced me to be a fan soley on the quality of music.

To me Boyd and Kim are a key part of their success as well. I have never met either nor anyone in the band ( unless you count rather sheepishly asking Chauntelle to sign my copy of EP2 ) but I know Eisley would not be the Eisley we know without them. They will become even a bigger factor of Eisley's success as the band grows and gets more notice. The music industry has a way of encouraging self destruction in bands... which is kind of ironic considering they are the life blood of the entire industry.

Finally, the band just has this positive vibe that comes off them during a show. I don't know how to describe it really. That goes a long way in winning over fans.

so here's my list
1. very good music
2. solid direction and guidence
3. a great show

To be honest, the thing about Eisley that made me want to go see them was Eisley. The name. There was just something about it. Eisley. It sounded like the kind of music I like, if thats possible? No harsh edges, sounds soothing, dreamy.

It was a combination of that, and bordem that drove me to wander into the park. I could've chosen to see the other bands, but they didn't have as interesting names. T'was a good job I had a Guest ticket, otherwise I would've missed them due to the massive queue!

So thats why I went to see them. Not cos they were young, or mostly female, or related. I only found that out afterwards!

Still, this thread is about why they are even in the position to be opening at such a big festival. Personally, I put their success down to the fact that they are quite obviously gifted. By that I don't just mean musically/artistically gifted, but gifted with the people around them. The support they have recieved from their family and friends is certainly something that seperates them from other talented artists who havent made it. A lot of parents wouldn't be so willing to put as much effort into helping them develop their talent, and give them the oppurtunites they have had.

So three cheers for the parents! Very Happy

I must say, after listening to Eisley more and more, they are simply great songwriters, no matter what age they are or family they belong to.

Laughing City is a very mature song to be written by a 14 year old. While the chord structure is relatively simple, the melody is undeniably catchy, and the intertwining harmonies of the chorus are simply brilliant. The new songs I heard on the radio performance totally eclipse everything on the EP, as well. These kids are growing in leaps and bounds all the time, it seems.

Very good job to all. I'm excited to see what's in store for the band next.
