This has been bothering me for weeks now. Does anyone know how they do the lap steel at the beginning of Golly Sandra when they play it live? I've seen live clips where they don't do it at all, but when I saw them in San Diego I could hear it, and it's on the new clip from Atlanta. Where is it coming from? Tracks? A hidden midget it the corner hidden from out of view?

I noticed this too. And Golly Sandra is my favorite song at the moment (no, not just because it's Stacy singing it.... Embarassed ). Anyways... Maybe it is some fancy laptop technology.

It's actually from Weston's iPod which he has niftily attached to his drum kit. Left channel is a click track for him, right channel is the backing instrument track for the song.

I believe he uses Apple Lossless Encoding on the tracks for maximum quality Wink

Off the top of my head, I can only think of Golly Sandra (lap steel) and Plenty of Paper (organ intro) that use the instrument track. There's probably more escaping my head right now.

iPods and instrumental tracking? This just doesn't sound right...

It's those wacky midgets.
