So I'm listening to One day I slowly Floated away in my truck, and it hits me from out of no where what the song is about. I think it's about a couple getting in a car wreck, and being grateful for the new day that they awake alive to. Let me see if I can break it down:

One day I slowly floated away
One day I slowly floated away

The car has just wrecked, and the narrator is slipping away

All the war horses wore rubber bands
To hide their hooves from sinking sand
The commander in charge was hoping that
Their destiny was not to die

war horses are ambulances (rubber bands; tires maybe?) The commander being the paramedic (hoping they would not die)

Wake up in the morning
I shall wake up, and so shall you
And I wake up, the sun is beautiful
And it is warming you and I
Fragile as we lie

They're lying in the hospital, fragile, But grateful. The sun is beautiful because they are able to see it again...

Hard to foresee the future
Our bodies are growing thin
Glimpsing the peeling paint off
The nurses ivory chin

Future is unknown. She is weak. Will she make it through?

You've got a lot of nerve coming here
Your eyes are beating rhythms way
Faster than the speeding bullet that
Took the life of your radio

He goes to her hospital room (she is obviously hurt worse than he was). And, I think the speeding bullet is the car, and the radio is the one inside of it. His eyes "beating rythms"- I think is to say he is holding back tears by blinking a whole lot.

And in the corner chair
Soft and soap-scented
My darling cries apologies
We foresee the mercy that's been shown
My young limbs will not go unthanked or unseen

He is in the hospital room saying his sorry's, and thanking the mercy that has been shown on their lives.

Ok, so I have no idea if this is even close. But It just fit, and felt so right. Does anyone else agree?? Maybe?? possibly?

I have no idea if that is right, but it does make sense. I never even considered that.

I'm not very good with song meanings, I really just like to listen to the imagery, especially with Eisley songs, I can picture in my head the war horses and their riders going across the sand dunes at full tilt.

no after standing to close to a hot air ballon as if floated up into the sky and as it did your leg got tangled up in a rope and then you fell to your death by instead of dieing you woke up a month later in a hospital with memories of dreams you had about being in a war and dieing and you loved ones are there and they are crying oh and you cowboy dad shot the radio

Sweet interpretation. I've always thought it had something to do with dying and going to heaven, the floating away part being death. I think I like your version better. Smile

i like that, thats really cool, i think lyrics are generally open to personal interpretation, even if its not what the writer was thinking about when they wrote the song. anyway, thanks a lot!
