You can call something a name all you want, but that doesn't make it what you want it to be. I am fully aware of the nature of subjectivity, but it doesn't apply in this instance. You want to apply a connotative meaning where only a denotative meaning should exist. JD You guys seem to be proving that even the issue of whether art is subjective or objective, is subjective itself. 
It all boils down to the definition of art -- according to Webster: "The conscious production or arrangement of sounds, colors, forms, movements, or other elements in a manner that affects the sense of beauty, specifically the production of the beautiful in a graphic or plastic medium." Beauty is inherently subjective, and whether something is beautiful or not determines whether it's art. Therefore, art must be subjective. Good enough? |
