 Post subject: the Bowery BallroomPosted: Wed Feb 08, 2006 10:16 am 
I have a feeling this might be off-topic/dumb, so my apologies if that's the case. I really want to see Eisley at the Bowery Ballroom. (helpful information: NYC is about an hour away from my home. I'm 17.) However, my parents are kind of opposed, partly because it's a school night and partly because they think it would be dangerous. Can anyone advise me, particularly regarding a)when the concert will probably end if the doors open at eight, and b)whether the area is dangerous like my parents think? _________________ ASTER (i'll think of a clever signature someday.) |

being a new yorker my whole life, i can tell you that it's a nice area, and you'd be safe. i've lived here almost 20 years and have yet to have a bad experience, anywhere. i would go with someone (just because travelling alone no matter to where from where can be dangerous) as far as the times, i would check the bowery ballroom website by searching for it at google. they'll probably have lots of information. let me know if you have any other questions! _________________ Kyle ~ like a boy.. only I'm a girl (g i r l) www.myspace.com/smiliekylie (p r o o f) |

It seemed safe enough to me, as long as you're with a couple of people. And I'm from small town Texas. I was there over summer with two friends (both girls) and it seemed fine. Though if you drive, I'd make sure nothing too important was in the car (or at least visible). ya it's pretty safe just like everyone's saying don't go alone. no concert/place like that is really safe alone because you never know what could happen. if your parents are still worried bring a phone or something and say you'll call them every now and then? that's what i do. |

yea. plus going alone is no fun. i hate to sound like a hypocrite but im actually going to the bowery show alone and to the donkey with like 947853 friends. im 18 and ive been going into the city since i was 14. its really not as dangerous as the media makes it out to be. of course there are certain areas that are not exactly friendly, but where the bowery is, is a very nice area. _________________

If doors open at 8, I would say that the concert would start by 9 pm. Factor in a couple of opening bands, which would have Eisley on by 10:00-10:30 pm. So the concert would probably end somewhere between 11:30 pm and 12:00 am. hey... we've been there 3 times, i've walked the streets with my kids, my wife, even little ones... I've taken cabs all over that area (in a panic looking for the right music gear before the show)... I've parked outside, walked too and from the venue to my van many times... stood around, before, after.. talked to fans, hung out... blah blah... I can honestly say it feels 5 times safer than Deep Ellum (downtown Dallas). Not a swanky, enclosed, alley filled area of the city at all... very open. It's a very rad venue... Old world theatre, balcony, classic stage with relief, etc. Downstairs is merch, restrooms, hang out area... (ok and a bar) but it's very nice. I felt safe there. That's all I can offer.
