SicTransitErica wrote: On a side note.. is there really a Unicorn Barbie? I'm pretty sure that with my family.. I've seen or owned every Barbie that exsists.. I have yet to find a Unicorn Barbie. Likely not. It confirms my belief that the author is a woman who is anti-"girly" things. By referring to some non-existant "girl's" toy, she cements herself as a person who is unfamiliar with and, therefore, opposed to such things existing. She likely believes that toys like Barbies and unicorns should not be marketed towards girls... because it is somehow demeaning and only increases in inequality between men and women. Similarly, this "girl band" (Eisley) with a lot of talent... "only" makes these dreamy, girly songs further bringing the fight of women down. Eisley should be out there doing the same things we've seen a million times before... they should be the next Creed. Then there would be a "legitmate" band in existance with women leads. Or maybe I'm just reading too much into it. And sorry for all the quotes. _________________ "If you're a ninja, every day is like friday." -Jamie M. |

Wow Boyd, you seem really pissed about this. ^_^ And I'm glad you are because you have a right to be. Pffft, I doubt Little Miss Pat was having a "bad day." If she was, she'd be like those assholes who put one sentence album reviews in magazines that are like, "this CD sucks." But she was clearly analyzing Eisley as being this childish unmeaningful band, and I know to all of us this is a huge insult because we love them so much. I did some research on her, and she rarely does album reviews for RS. (I was hoping legendary reviewers like Barry Walters, Rob Sheffield, or David Fricke would review Eisley.) Pat mostly does the abandoned indie, underground, or mainstream albums...you know, the stuff that no one reads (meaning that she sucks as a writer). Oct. 30, 2003 Atmosphere: "Seven's Travels" Rhynesayers/Epitaph 3 out of 5 stars "make over educated nerd crap: self-loathing, navel-gazing and occasionally hilarious." Shelby Lynne: "Identity Crisis" Capitol 3 out of 5 stars "making career out of freeing country from its own constrictions." (Hall of Fame Article) Steely Dan: "Countown to Ecstasy" [/i]MCA, 1973[/i] 5 out of 5 stars "['Bodhisattva'] could be the music for a Looney Tunes Cartoon." Nov. 13, 2003 Howie Day: "Stop All the World Now" Epic 2 out of 5 stars "the concept is: 'Radiohead is a great band!'" Erase Errata: "At Crystal Palace" Troubleman Unlimited 3 out of 5 stars "utterly destorys the music that inspired them..." So yeah, she sucks a lot. She only does reviews once in a while. She also has pretty bad analogies. _________________ "What's with these homies dissing my girl?" - Weezer "I think I know I mean a yes but it's all wrong, that is I think I disagree." - Beatles My Livejournal |

from my limited experience writing movie/music reviews, i know that it's much easier to bash things. i think you that's why i always tried to avoid it, unless i really felt strongly - it felt like a cop out to just malign some band/movie because it was easy, or because it made me sound cool and aloof. _________________ hello. |

yeah, yeah. someone else said to send the full length directly to Pat when it comes out. i say cover the envelope with flowers, unicorns, etc (what is typically thought of as 'girly;). then soak it in perfume. then attach a small explosive device.......err.......just the first two. _________________ I am Torgo. I think it was Elvis Costello who said that writing about music is like dancing about architechture. _________________ Coprophiliacs make sh*tty lovers. Flickr Transvaal IV - Myspace : Virb Deep Thoughts About Shallow Subjects |
