I just got my new AP in the mail and flipped to the reviews like I always do. There I saw The Hush Sound's new CD Like Vines and proceeded to read upon seeing the rating (3/5 what?!). They call their song Magnolia "the product of an emo-fortified Eisley." At least AP admitted Eisley isn't "emo" This can be moved if I put it in the wrong place |

Nah, that's just a comparison. I'm sure at some point there will be tons of Eisley clones, though. Especially if they hit big. _________________ My photography:www.jamiemphoto.com You can't spell awesome without emo...backwards! -Julie definingawesome (11:44:11 PM): Eisley shivers our timbers |

no, the hush sound are not copying them. i have yet to be reminded of eisley while listening to them. i do like that the hush sound has a more apparent piano than eisley. Same here. I just thought it was really funny that someone would come up with that comparison. I think The Hush Sound is unique and the piano really helps their sound. |

I adore The Hush Sound, they are not copying Eisley, they [both bands] pretty much have their own sound/style/whatever.... How could one tell if another band is emulating Eisley's style/sound anyway.... _________________ Day whipped his black dray, Opaque orphan of Ring |

Yeah I definitely heard other bands that are more similar to Eisley than this band. Maybe they mean lyrical wise? (I don't know, I'm just responding after listening to some myspace samples). Speaking of which, I have to say I really like what I hear! I might have to get the album... |

So true! I was at a show in Wheaton quite a while back and there were like 50 kids there and Gretta was there and one of the guys in the bands playing was like "Hey, everyone, It's Gretta from the Hush sound, watch out for them cause they're going to get big!" and then like ....1 month later they were signed and touring anf as famous as you can get being on fuledvbyvramen/decaydance _________________ Julie Do you believe in something beautiful? This can be moved if I put it in the wrong place only 3/5?? man, that cd has been in my cd player since it came out, there's no way it's only worth "3/5" |

The Hush Sound makes an admirable musical effort on their second album, but you can tell the Chicago foursome's tender age simply by their susceptibility to outside influence. "Lions Roar" could be mistaken for a Panic! at the Disco B-side; "Magnolia" is the product of an emo-fortified Eisley; and "We Intertwined" draws inspiration from album collaborators and fellow Chicagoans This is Me Smiling. Fortunately, the Hush Sound's quirky melodies, refreshing use of piano and alternating male/female vocals show intriguing promise for their future endevors. Pianist Greta Salpeter is the band's MVP, her breathy voice and winding keyboard lines being the focal point of the band's sense of aesthetics. It's hard to say where THS will go next; hopefully, it won't need the kind of hype that naked photographs of their A&R guy brings. --- Emily Zelmer of AP |
