I wet my head because...it was on fire....because...well, I shouldn't have been playing with matches when I was reading the Rolling Stone. I know better. Glad the water hose was only 100 yards from my head. _________________ EisleyWebGuy "The industrialists never saw the fruit of their own labor - Post Moderism, which I now proclaim as dead. yeah, that's a trip. Sherri's head even breaks through the border. i don't know about the female Flaming Lip comparison though. what did the band / family think about that? to me, the vocals remind me of Leigh Nash (what little i've heard of her) backed by OK Computer era Radiohead......but happier.....and different.......but thats how i tried to describe their sound when a friend asked what they sounded like _________________ I am Torgo. Now that's a response that will rev up a thread. awesome. hmmmm....Rolling Stone is crap. You're cool to take up for the band. seriously. I questioned the article as well...not at first; then later I just thought - "dude....that's so easy...Avril FINISHING school??!!! whatever. girl flaming lips!?? well, at least we like the Lips...and it's not a terrible injustice. Here's my reconciliation: I think David Fricke was excited about the band....but for some reason chose to orient people with 2 points of reference instead of the typical, adjective intensive blathering ("with fierce intertwined riffs of incandescent chunk, eisley layered chortals of melodic ooze over playful, chaotic, epervescance and rocked a marble slab of sonic purety at Stubbs that night.."). I guess he saw girls; thought they looked Avrilesque (in so much as Stacy has been pigeoned as an Avril look-alike before) and picked up on the similarities in the Lips: indie-ness, the fun-factor, creativity, etc...and he just threw down the copy. He probably had a deadline to hit so he just skimped on wordsmithing and rewarded the band with the feature photo. But in the end, I'm thankful. Hey....like Dave Holmes said when I mentioned the same: (paraphrased) "to be in the Rolling Stone at this stage is so amazing....you guys should know that; The bottom line? - one of the most well known editors in rock music he gave you a positive review; he only picked 4 bands out of 1000, so that's important...and hey, it's because of him that you're in the biggest rock magazine in the world...you should be really happy about that. it's not so much what he said, it's that he said something..." And, for the record, the band is super thankful...shocked, dumbfounded. Sherri is just glad that they're on the page with "Sir Paul McArtney". _________________ EisleyWebGuy "The industrialists never saw the fruit of their own labor - Post Moderism, which I now proclaim as dead. I have not read or seen the article yet but from other entries it appears that the jounalist compared Eisley to Avril Lasagna or whatever her name is. I think the only good comparison would be in looks between her and Staci and thats only becuase they both have long straight hair. The thing about avril is that her clothes rock harder than her music does so the musical comparison is void in my opinion. I was trying to come up with some good comparisons for some of my friends but all I could not think of one that really hit it on the head. So I just that every band has their influences but Eisley seems to be influenced by outside sources other than music so all you can really say is that eisley sounds like eisley. I think their going to be one of those bands that everyone else compares themsleves to. and ive bumped me gums enough so, laters the trickster |

i think its awesome that you guys (or rather you girls since jonathan and weston weren't mentioned at all) were in rolling stone. that a huge opportunity. but comparing "new" bands to acts that have already become popular is so tired. that's basically all rolling stone does anymore. at least you weren't on the same page as nelly or eminem, who shouldn't be in rolling stone anyway. i just hope that another rock magazine become popular someday that truly holds up to being a "rock" magazine and not throw the flavor of the week on the cover (lisa marie). |
