I did my best searching since it's kinda old (Jan 15th), but I couldn't see it being discussed here. Gaze your eyes upon this: http://www.dailyemerald.com/vnews/display.v/ART/2004/01/15/400663d0a44 01 That's a pretty scathing review if I ever saw one. Ouch. I guess everyone's entitled to their opinion but jeez. This reviewer didn't even see a glimmer of light. I still say the huge amount of people on this forum are a testament that Eisley deserves and have earned a better fate than being a "theme song for a show on the WB" -A saddened Luke |

wow.. check out the Yeltsin band he raves on about.. http://www.yeltsinrocks.com/music.html I mean.. it's not horrible I suppose, but it's definately more forgetable than Eisley... especially when the vocals fall short of the correct key.. _________________ "strength is just an accident arising from the weakness of others." ~Joseph Conrad ---------------

I think they're quite weak, period... it's just another neu-rock band, with those boringly repetitive sixteenth notes and monotone vocals to top it off.. yuck if you ask me.. anyway, seening that this reviewer praised these guys and dissed Eisley, pretty much deflates the review and shows how much of an ear for music he has.. _________________ "strength is just an accident arising from the weakness of others." ~Joseph Conrad ---------------

ok, I decided to post a comment. I didn't proof read, so I don't know how well it turned out, but here it is, just.. err.. you know... for your information.. Quote: I read this review as an Eisley fan. I Cringed with the knocks and ducked the cheap-shots. Despite the fact that this interview did not, shall we say, place Eisley in a 'positive light', I decided to check out Yeltsin, even though the graphic subscribed to them, in the article, was dreary and unimaginative at best. I mean, you shouldn't judge a CD by it's cover.. ..art, should you?
Unfortunately (or perhaps, fortunately), the cover reflected the music quite accurately. Mono-tone, dreary and un-interesting. Sure it's "art", but it's nothing special. The guitar follows the same 'indie rock' formula that seems to be popping up everywhere. Nice and neat, guitar-driven sixteenth notes interrupted from time to time by an easily forgettable 'solo' or 'melody' deviation. The vocals seem to have a tough time keeping the pitch, which is quite a feat, considering the fact that there is no tone variation what so ever. All and all, i'd say that this review was quite disappointing in two ways. First, because it knocked a band that I enjoy listening to frequently, and second, because it raved about a band that was nothing special. Just another insignificant drop in the ever-expanding "indie rock" bucket. And honestly, given the great review for Yeltsin, I have to wonder if this reviewer doesn't have a problem with Eisley. Instead, it appears that this reviewer may not enjoy female vocals with rock 'n' roll in general. Yes, that was a cheap shot, and a big assumption, there have also been other cheap shots in this comment, however, I don't feel the need to pull any punches, so I didn't. _________________ "strength is just an accident arising from the weakness of others." ~Joseph Conrad ---------------

I tried to respond to this article with feedback but the "confirm" link wouldn't work. _________________ https://soundcloud.com/kiteswithoutstrings/tracks |

Eh, it's a college review... from Oregon. And it's so obviously spiteful, that I think most won't take it very seriously. I, for one, can say that basically every person I've exposed to Eisley, since I've started listening to them, has gotten into them. Usually not a little, but quite whole-heartedly. The only people that seem to have a problem with them are boys who have some sort of macho image to uphold. In the long run, this'll probably be better, as I won't have to put up with moshing at Eisley shows. |
